If you think well of this added feature, tell others (and us too); if you think well of it, tell us (and not others!) Since the Informer began to expose the inhuman treatment accorded so many colony-raised animals to City Hospital, this paper has been given quite a bit of additional information concerning the shocking and shameful manner in which the animals were treated, particularly "charity patients," are handled and treated at this supposed elemenary institution operated jointly by the county and municipal govern- Apropos of the colored man who died there without ever receiving any medical attention (whose tragic and unfortunate death occurred in these columns last week), information has reached us that he was merely strapped to the bed when he entered this hospital and that nothing else came for or to him until he was away. We have been informed also that a colored lad, who had stuck a nail in his foot, was admitted to the hospital until his foot became swollen from infection; that the beds are filthy, being infested with bacteria, and that the literally hold a field meet and high carnival in the colored ward. The patients are often forced to suffer for several days before getting any type of medical or surgical treatment, usually because the crowded that they must wait until room can be made for them, despite the fact that they are already coming to the institution's charge and keeping. One colored citizen, who visited and inspected the color bar, wielded a knife in a county jail, declared that it "looked more like a dog gun than a hospital," and that the type of treatment it received was a disgrace to the community and social order. Said another person: "I can't see for the first time a person, with one spark of humanity in his or her breast, can mistreat helpless and vulnerable individuals to attentions Negroes at the Jefferson Davis Hospital. If this is their method of exterminating the Negro population, then they have been made at this county-supplied morgue home. If this is humanity, civilization and Christianity, then may the Lord have mercy upon the men." In the registration area of 1925 the mortality rates during 1925 the mortality rate of the registration population was 11.2 for the white and black for the colored, and these figures as the registration States as a whole. "In the cities in the registration states, however, the mortality rate for infants is 23.5 for the colored. This is in sharp contrast with the figures for the rurals in the registration states, where the mortality rate was 10.2 and colored 15.2. The dynamic factors at present exist further exemplified in the mortality rates in registration cities in the non-colored states, where the mortality was 13 and colored 23.4. It is unnecessary to go into specific details concerning these variations in mortality rates in the colored mortality rate is entirely out of harmony with what would be properly employed and if there were already afflicted with disease. The fact that the major disproportion in these mortality rates exists in cities indiscriminately, the medicalization of health work in large cities. Mas. R. SPORTS POTPOURRI LANGSTON TIES STATE COLLEGE IN LAST MINUTE (B. C. F. RICHARDSON, Sr.) Prairie View, Texas - Outplayed in every department of the game except in the scoring end, which is the main thing in the final analysis, the Langton University Tigerang, Tangson, Oklahoma, tied the Prairie View College University. The undoing of the state gridders was caused by two long forward passes hurried to "Crib," ebony-hued Indian on the Sooner eleven, whose catch of a three Panthers made the score 19-18 in favor of Prairie View. The extra point was then added, and the game ended in a 19-19 deadlock. The minutes of the first quarter, before the Panthers had gotten over their "stage right" and old machine had to function in a new way, with two touchdowns one by a short pass behind the line and the Panthers' View fumble and a subsequent plunge into the extra failed. Each try for the extra failed. As the event was home-going day graduates and former students of the Panthers, they were given numbers, and many of them began to vision a complete rout of the Panthers for power and tenacity, and no Texas eleven has ever been able to emerge victor in a clash with the Oktahomans. In the second quarter, aided by the line plunging of Marks, Prairie View's big pandas down the gridiron, resulting in two touchdowns and the extra point after one touchdown. The first touchdown was score 13-12 in Prairie View's favor. The third quarter resolved itself largely into a pouting contest, with the Panthers winning 13-12, but near the end of the third spasm the Panthers across the gridiron broke loose, with students, alumni, undergraduates and spectators reading the air with shouts and CUBERO GOBBLERS WIN FROM SAN ANTONIO GRID ELEVEN Curoz, Texmo...The Curoz High School game from the Dauglas High School of San Antonio, here has the game was hard fought and the outcome was in doubt until the third quarter. Howver Emerged Game's Star Republican Coach Hickory Work made him a straight-fighter, straight football, and that Smith and his team had neither a defense nor a strategy to exhibit any of their "tricky plays." He further aided that, in the face of the Republican team, it was impossible to keep the former secretary of commerce off the all-American political football eleven of all the states. As the return came pouring in when the first tabulations were made, the Republican presidential defeat of the Democratic presidential ticket was imminent, and after the defeat, leaders were only concerned in the size of the score; for the outcome of the contest was over in doubt after the first round. National Race Leaders Pleased Despite disaffection of many colored Americans to the Smith camp; depedicate the officers; undeline, neglect the injection of the "race issue" into the campaign and the office; antipathy, the office and antipathy, the Colored War Division—headed by John R. Hawkins of Washington as chairman, Alcorn of Maryland and Robert L. Vann of Pittsburgh as director of publicity, with the assistance of a dedicated assistant—was delighted with the support accorded the winning candidate in the Negro race throughout America. Smith's Paradoxical Situation Polling the largest poplar vote ever recounted any time in the state, practically 13,000,000 votes, Governor Smith has than far made the most morrowful showing in the state's history in his party. Hoover's poplar vote is approaching the 19,000,000 mark, with 84 percent of the voters having triumphed in 40 of the 48 states, including several states in the north, Virginia, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Texas. Thus the defeated Gohman government has won two states in the Democratic section stronghold and two other states, givin him only 87 votes in the electoral college. Hoover Leading In Texas Latest returns from the Texas Ballot Board indicate the Texas will be the first time in its history. At hour of going to presenlce Hover's vote was 301, of which 284 received, with 284,325, giving the presenlce elect a 17,512 lead over Smith with 250 of the state's 252 counties. In Harris County the Hover majority is close to the 4,000 mark, and in Harris County that Hover would carry Houston and Harris County, and probably the Lone Rock county, and electors of the city, county and state. Wurshack Leading Opponent The closest congressional race in the state's history was held in the Fourth District of Pennsylvania by Harry M. Wurzach of Signia, running for a seat in the house of represen- tation. He was defeated stiff opposition from Judge August McCloskey of San Antonio, Democrat of Democratic adversary for seven hours, the Republican congressional candidate. Greene, Prairie View, and Mrs. Iola W. Rowan, Nacogdoches. Departmental Meetings Second Day The whole of the afternoon of the second day will be given over to the conductors. The conductors have been announced as follows: Home economics, Miss. K. May, Prairie View; health, Dr. D. Fowler; business, Dr. Fowler; workers, Mrs. Iola J. Lee; colleges, Dr. M. W. Dogs; high schools, Prof. Joseph J. Rhonda; schools, Prof. W. L. Davis, Houston. Memberships Being Collected According to reports coming from the office of Executive Secretary J. Roberts, the office of Miss Ellie A. Walls, secretary-treasurer, Houston, all indications point to the beginning of the meeting. Receipt books for collectors have been sent to nearly 100 persons by the executive secretary. To that office indicate that the work is progressing rapidly. Already many collectors are working hard to surpass the record of last year, when the opening session of the association Bulletin Soon Off Press The convention issue of the Texas Republican convention, it is in press and will be sent to the entire membership before the convention, also are to be mailed out during the next few days so that all may have a clear knowledge of all of the events before. Railroad Certificates Ready The reduced rates, which have been granted on all of the railroads of the country, are also available only to those who are holders of the official certificates which are to be issued by the certificate will be sent to Secretary J. W. Rice. The certificates are already on hand and will be sent to the office next ten days. Others who are desiring of attending the meeting may be given a certificate directly to the office of the executive secretary. The official committees, through Prof. H. J. Mason, indicate that everything will be in readiness for the meeting. The committee will make this the most opportune meeting in the history of the organization. night, when the count was Wurzbach had 28,091 votes and McCheney had an ally majority of 64 for Wurzbach. Nearroes Balance of Power Prior to the election The Informer imitated that the colored vote would be presidential race in Texas; that if the Republicans could corral the black Texas would 'be rayw; that if the Democrats could woe the "brother of how," Smith's chance would be good. From results, particularly in center populations, the Negroes of the state, with few exceptions, voted for the black race, and if these race voters had been organized and an intensive campaign reportedly suggested and contended, Heover's majority in Texas would now exceed the 50,000 mark, vote which proved the balance of power, resulting in Texas going Republican, for the first time in its history. That which landed among the stones, the thorns and in the barren places, perished. Only the seeds which reached the good ground had a chance to grow. The modern advertiser does not strew his seed of malaismhip to the winds. He plants it carefully in the "good ground"—in the places where because of favorable conditions it has a chance to bear a harvest of consumer results. He uses newspaper advertising because the market is likely by the markets which he knows, upon careful investigation, to be right places for his product to flourish. His wife, too, who had been sewing in her favorite chair behind the counter, looked sad and depressed. The man glanced around the little place affectionately. He looked at the shelves of canned goods, the boxes and barrels of cereals and produce, the brooms and rakes piled in one corner and the mops and pails arranged neatly in another. Poor old gray-haired Julian Arceneaux! For years he had worked hard in this little store building up a business. Up until recently he had been quite successful. He had a beautiful little home nestling in the midst of a grove of very old trees and he had been able to send his daughter, Rose, through the Catholic school, from which she had only recently graduated.
