Having enjoyed an afternoon of music during the winter by the Pike band of Houston and South Texas will be given an opportunity to hear the music of Houston and South Texas singers at the City Auditorium, Sunday afternoon, April 28, 3:30 o'clock. These singers are just back in tour of Europe, where they have sung before the crowded heads and nobility of European nations. The American musical critics agree that this third generation of Pike jubilee singers surpassed the previous generation and quality of tone and interpretation of the favorite Negro spirituals, jubilees and Dixie melodies. The program was developed a program in the New York home of Walter Damrosch, the famous American musical leader, attended by the musicians, including Padwardick, and here is the tribute paid them by Mr. Damrosch.

HOOVER'S POLICY
BEARS FRUIT IN
SOUTH CAROLINA
Charleston, S. C. — (ANP)—President Hoover's express intention of "cleaning up the Republican party in the South," was evidently interpreted as "cleaning out the Negro," an action of the actions of chairman of the "cleanup committee," W. F. Brown.
Immediately following his return from Washington, boating to the州, Hoover helped his cleanup plans, which if carried out will doublelessly mean the utter failure of the party, as he stated that he intended to build up a white Republican party, and that he joined Joe Coleh, the ninety-year-old Republican leader in the Palmetto state, as "chairman of the Republican organization, and that all good Republicans, white and black

Chicago—(ANP)—The t h a t teachers and president of Negro colleges and schools are interested in a large degree in "seeing Europe" is indicated by Dr. A. Wilberforce Williams, relative to the third annual Williams European tour, which will start from New York City July 18.
"In fact," said Dr. Williams, who is managing the team, "so many teachers decided to arrange for two sailing dates in order to make it convenient for those who cannot leave with the students, to give them the occasion, the directors of the movement have arranged for the second group to join the others at London, July 21." These tours, which had their origin three years ago, were promoted originally by the other members of professional and scientific groups. In response to the requests of the year to include educators in the group and arrange a special program which would be of benefit particularly to teachers who include visits to various internationally known educational institutions of the world famous hospitals.

Garrison Recognized As Casting Director
Los Angeles, Cal.—(ANP)—Everybody around Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's headquarters is worried about the much consideration and deference as the white directors. "Slick em" has been working at the studio nearly two years, and he is largely knowledge of the industry. His work in the filming of "Halleynah" has largely to the success predicted for it.
Demand Grows For Negroes In Talkies
Los Angeles, Cal.—(ANP)—That local colored actors and extras will be featured in the show is the opinion held by competent observers of Hollywood activities. Every studio in the country has a talent standariness in musicals. Fox has completed the Fox Follies featuring Carolynne Shawden and her brother, Michael Browne. "The Thunderbolt," with a considerable number of colored performers in the studio, has been supported by Ethel Waters with a white supporting cast, has been finished by Warner Brothers, who paid her $2,500 a week. The comedy has been finished at Christie's studio, with many more being prepared by Spencer Williams, colored scent. Mr. Butler has booked in all 2,300 actors to various studios just since he was placed the week of March 22.

PRODUCER CANCELS SHOW BECAUSE OF "JIM-CROW" POLICY
Washington—(ANP) The accusation of a license for the theater in which Sam Griman, the New York producer of "The Jazz Regiment" was to have played that attraction in Pittsburgh, compelled the show to lay off in Washington, where it had concluded a two-week engagement with business. Behind this hung a tale of Washington theater owner's attitude toward the race.
The Pittsburgh cancellation came after the town had been billed, and the owner had been pending for sometime between house owner and affluent, but did so with the "Jazz Regiment"

The public directors at the law firm have become so adept at a well-dissipated routine of difficult dance numbers that perhaps the manager of Manager Liebman's warriors is the fear that some club or thundering day midnight show and grab them off in a bunch with a but salty affair of a day midnight show and grab them regularly, and have the omnipotence of a tiller unit in broussas. "YELLOW TICKET" CAUSES
THEATRICAL SENSATION
Los Angeles, Cal., (ANP) -With the stark, grim, tragic atmosphere of Russia offset by magnificent settings, the film's title, "The Lowest Lift," and one of the largest runs of any great plays or musicals in the world, is a celebration of persecution of the Jews in Russia with startling demonstrations and surprising climax. The title, "Prize, Prey, as "Maryagge Seaton," was wonderful, though cast as a character the opposite of the man as Kasha, a app; Lanceur Kiner as Baron Steven Andrey; "Buddle" Thompson as Julian Balle, and Sidney Kline as the man offered outside parts. All Patton, local favorite, Chas. Gladen, Minnie, and Robert Arthur filled other roles credroitly. A large percentage of the audience was nightly and applauded very heartily.
Los Angeles, Cal.—(ANP)—Operatives of the district attorney's office offered Douglas to investigate him on a hand check charge.
Taking advantage of the desire of Takeda, who represented himself as being of the English mobility, Douglas, who represented himself as being of the English mobility, Carvalho, Nordicist, and other great musical stars, hold meetings in Carvalho Nordicist, and offermovine work in return for the $3 per person required as a fee.

New York—(ANP) According to a report, a stirring in the current lionheart biography, Gareth Bale is not scoring a hit in his latest motion release from Metro. The critic calls it "Gergo Dewey Washington does not get the short. When caught at the Capital Theater, the audience begins to get numb, and the film number, by the time he was halfway through his third and final song, gets the heart hit of attention."

New York — (ANP) — The wizards of the film industry are experiencing considerable anxiety in regard to the reception which is going to be expected from their performances or Negro themes. It is known that they feel they are treading on uncertain ground, and, in all cases, their experiments have not worked out well. Cabin" the expensive Universal production has been a disappointment to its makers, according to insiders, and the Fox people are not quite sure what is going to happen to "Hearts in Dixie" after it hires the big urban center of New York in its reception by both Negroes and whites generally as there is nothing evident in either case, remarks a writer in one publication. The main problem is the murmur in which exhibitors will consider the picture in sections of the film, in which fearing which might be fanned to dangerous proportions by an interruption in the audience. It is regarded as only natural that colored picture fans will marshal to witness the feature拍摄 that they will be willing to wait until it is shown in their own neighborhood film, in other films, is the salient point that in giving film food for serious

LAUDS PRELATE
While the collection was being lifted is as in my usual custom, I eat enjoyably day dreaming. My mind ran back to the older women. So often I have to ask them if I have from personal knowledge, and from what I have learned from the older women. I often ask them if I have from personal knowledge. Rev. Dibble, one of the founders of the Fourth Ward, said so much about the property of the Fourth Ward was bought by Dr. W. H. Houston, leading the Fourth Trinity. Trinity has always been fortunate in having on its church roster mounted Houston, leading the Fourth Trinity. Trinity has always been fortunate in having on its church roster mounted Houston, leading the Fourth Trinity. Emmett J. Scott, secretary-treasurer of the manhood, an ardent worker in this church, as was his father before him, Dr. James R. Dyan, Ryan and active worker in Trinity day are: Prof James D. Ryan, Jasper and active worker in Trinity Jones, the organist; T. Ewing, A. E. Butler, B. J. Gilmore and a collection of others too numerous to mention.
At this point in the bishop's discourse, I had about change my mind about the bishop. They can preach, all I have thought to the contrary, notwithstanding. And I prepared to master my degree dissertation, to please power, ease, and money as the goal of life. I wished for an audience with the bishop, Hall, as Bishop Jones discussed the bishop in running the race, the bishop thought, he named three sins which he considered the greatest, namely, the failure and an attempt to do little. But you know, he passed. My feeble efforts with the power, he would fail so utterly that he be painted it and as I saw it then, that I shall refrain from making any further attempt to record it. Suffice it to say that he expressed sympathy during the bishop's lecture of our brother, James Long, April 11, 1929.

Anent Baptist Muddle
Manor, Texas—In an executive board meeting, the Grange Association and its auxiliary units resolved resolutions unanimously adopted.
Of the constitutions exiling in our Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention, we the members of the Grange District Association felt called upon to express our views to the end, to solidify the formation of Texas, and pledge ourselves to this end, to solidify the forces for them. We hereby ask that every leader of each state auxiliary step down and be called upon to come to the convention from both factions as a call member of the convention meet in some cenation, then ask them around and can gather, thereby putting an end to the convention. We feel that no one is interested in the cause we represent should be involved in the convention made solely in the interest of peace, harmony and solidity. We feel that no one is interested in the person who stands in the way of this effort should not be regarded as a safe place for that peace and harmony in our ranks because we represent the individual.
Praying God's blessings upon our movement, with the hope that the en-

TOUGHING PEOPLE AND ADULT TOPIC:
Of True Confidence
1. God's Message of Comfort (v. 1, 2).
It was addressed to laishin and his successors in office (v. 1).
His name, was to make known the very heart of God to the people who were in great need of comfort. They were in a stramine land, in cipherity because of their God—the breaking of God—the breaking of their covenant with Him—His favor was about to return.
The mutual relation of God and His people (v. 1).
This is expressed in the phrases "my people" and "your God." The believer belongs to God, and it is to be thus related to Him. Observe, this was said concerning a people who had stained and backslidken.
In spite of their gross impulses, their pardon was declared. The receiving of double at the Lords hands does not constitute an infliction of punishment, but that the divine pardon pardoned the guilt. The pardon of the sainthood blessing their blessing was not through their own merit, but was to be realized through the sainthood of Jebahov. The Preparation Required (v. 3.3).
In order to secure the salvation of the vicarious offering of Jebahov, it was necessary that certain preparation should be made. Observers, it was necessary that certain address (v. 3). This voice was that of John the Baptist, and actually was heard at the time of the coming of Jesus Christ
2. Prepare ye the way of the Lord. (c. 31) It was the custom on state account of the king or ruler and make preparation for his coming. This preparation consisted of the actual depressions of the crown and the straightening of crooked places, so that the monarch could see the crown in its natural motion in its moral bearing, the meaning in preparation for the coming of the Lord into the hearts and lives of the people. The glory of pride and selfish ambition, and the straightening of the crooked and sinful hearts. 3. The glory of the Lord revealed (v. 5). There is proper preparation of heart, the Lord will enter, and His glory will be revealed in the life. It primarily refers to the manifestation of the shrine glory in the person of the Lord.
III. The Friary of Man in Contrast With God's Word (v. 6-8).
"All flesh is grass and earth is power of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades, because the Spirit of the Lord is strong. Say to the Lord, the grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God shall stand forever." Just as the blunt of the sword destroys the crops, so everything loved and prized by the natural man destroys the God of God's judgment, but His Word shall stand forever. The Word of God abides from age to age with perseverance and triumph, and a mature triumph should steady us because no matter through what stress we go, the Lord comes there will be victory.
The Lord God Coming to Zion (v. 91-11).
1. Behold Your God. (v. 9).
When He comes to Zion there will be no need of Ear. This blessed truth can be proclaimed along to the clerics (v. 10). 2. The Lord God will come with a strong hand (v. 10). The word is in the coming of Jesus Christ in power and great glory to establish His blessed rule over the earth. Righteousness can cope only with the Messianic rule. 3. He shalt feed his flock like a shepherd (v. 10). The Shepherd will search out and provide for His offs.
Always Content
We shall be made truly wise if we be made content; content, too, not only with what we understand, but content with what we do not understand, so that we legals call, and rightly, faith in God—Charles Kingley.
That We May Read Aright
God sometimes washes the eyes of his children with tears in order that they may read aright his providences and his commandments—L. T. Cler,
The habit of looking on the bright side and making the best of things, in itself a fortune, is what makes a website such a website that has this asset. The asset no matter how unpromising, has some circumstance, little angle from which it can be viewed with more favor. The most important of these spots of good, let us make the most of it.

ST.LOUIS WHITES SEEK TO STOP ERECTION OF COLORED HOSPITAL; RESTRAINING ORDER IS SOUGHT
St. Louis, Mo.—(ANP)—Another move to prevent the erection of the new City Hospital for Negroes at Goode Avenue and Whittier Street, will be undertaken by opponents of the project, this time through injunction proceedings in the circuit court against the city. According to Charles P. Conner, attorney, who was authorized to file a suit last Saturday, against Mayor Miller, City Treasurer Buechner, President of the Board of Public Service Kisey and the city, the legality of all actions taken by the city officials so far will be attacked.
Cormer, who is the counsel for the commission of the Chouteau-Lindell Improvement Association, asserted that nineteen other so-called white civic organizations this opposition is readily interpreted by colored citizens who say that the spending of large amounts from the bond funds for the erection of a Ne-Hospital at Goode Avenue and Whittier Street would be only the opening wedge to expand large sums for other purposes affirmed in the land issue ordinances.
A Concested Plan
In the petition to be presented to the petition for those bringing the action of Harry Harvey for the construction of the Chouteau-Lindell Improvement Association, it is set forth proposal No. 107, which requires 50,000 be used for the acquisition of land and the construction of additional facilities for the acquiring of tenants and the indigent tubercular, insano, feeble-minded, infirm and sick patients. Mayor Miller's utterance, taken from the city records, has been affirmed by the city officials. Mayor Miller's Victims Attack

This provision has been twisted to serve the purpose of the element of the bond hospital. An item of the $8,700,000 bond issue, approved by voters in 2005, was forged for the erection of a new hospital for Negroes at a cost of $1,800,000. The opposition claim that proposition 1 must be interpreted as meaning there may be additions to existing institution provisions. No proposition 2 must be erected under the bond issue provisions. It is pointed out the hospital and Whittier Street, would be a great

er distance than four miles from either of the present hospitals (for the most part, the former). This opposition is usually interpreted by colored citizens, who say that the mayor had refused to sign a 're release' bill, which would have allowed the hospital unless it was evicted adjacent to an institution for 'whites only' or allowed a clinical care for white medical students. It was before the citium supervisory (bond issue committee), it is said the mayor of St. Louis was the first to create unfavorable sentiment against our people and to defeat the expressive mayor, taken from city records, names the mayor.
Mayer's Vicious Attack
"There has been a bill passed for a new street named Avenue and Whistler Street. The records of the colored people who are to be taken to the hospital are a site adjacent the white institution is a much closer place than the one where they come into this world from Negroes are symphilic. Yet, some of the people in the hospital where they say, but, I don't think we should spend bond利息, someone who knows something about it. What we take away from this street is a place away from the white people also."

COLORED CONGRESSMAN SEATED
With the convening of the special session of the United States congress, which got under way at the national capital Monday, a new epoch was marked in the life of the American Negro, particularly of the North.
For the first time in the history of the colored brother north of the Mason and Dixon line, a member of the race is sitting in the lower house of congress; and what is more, Congressman Oscar DePriest, representing the First Congressional District of Illinois (the so-called "silk stocking" district represented in the national law-making body for several years by the A.I.C. G. Mendon) was seated without any contest or controversy.
When the charges of election fraud, preferred against Mr. DePriest last summer in Chicago, were recommended dismissed last week by the state of Illinois, it was generally agreed that no other reason could be raised by congress to refuse the colored son his seat in congress, and thus Mr. DePriest is now Congressman DePriest.
It has been about twenty-eight years since a colored man has sat in the halls of congress as a representative of a congressional district. George White of North Carolina being the "last of the Mohicans."
Oddly enough, while Congreasman DePriest was sent to congress from a Northern district, he is a product of the South, being a native of Alabama and removing to Chicago several years ago to follow his painting vocation.
Instead of Negroes in other congressional districts, they have real voting strength and power, standing supinely and permitting other races to represent them in the congressional legislature by voting. The congressional sample of the black fraternals, and select and elect a member of their own race to be their spokesman where it will count most.
PYTHIAN PROGRESS PORTRAYED
The recent financial statement made public by the Colored Knights of Pythias of Texas and Court of Calanthe, headed by W. Willis of Dallas and Mrs. F. K. McPherson of Gainesville, respectively, reflects the healthy condition of the order and protrays phenomenal progress in the realm of fraternal insurance by this Texas order.
In 1929, the total assets of the Pythians were $850, 614.32 in compris with $804,608.50 on the same date in 1928, revealing a gain during one year of $45,805.82.
As of March 1, 1929, the Calantheans had assets of $417,476.85, while on the same date last year they had $362,777.25, showing a gain during the 12-month period of $45,699.70.
The combined assets of the Pythians and Calantheans of Texas, as of March 1, 1929, were $1,267,851.27, while on March 1, 1928, these assets amounted to $1,167,385.75, indicating a gain of $100,505.52 during the period of one year.
The marvelous and unprecedented growth of the Pythian state in this state, under the astute, able and wise leadership of Mr. Willis, reads like some mythological story; for when he became grand chancellor of Texas, the Texas fraternal wealth bankrupt and had to negotiate an insufficient money to hold the annual grand lodge; while death claims often had to wait for months before the endowment department could liquidate them.
Today the order boosts of assets in excess of one and one-quarter million dollars, and the interest on mortgage loans, bonds, etc.,

takes care of the salaries of all grand lodge officers, and some to spare; while all death claims, unless affected by minor disabilities or some other legal causes, are paid promptly upon receipt of proofs of death.
The policies have been increased, and policies are now available ranging from $300 to $1,000.
Because of his business-like administration of Pythian affairs in Texas and his able leadership, Pythians throughout the whole jurisdiction are anxious to see Mr. Willis elevated to the head of the order, and already a movement has gained much momentum to place him in the field as a candidate for the supreme chancellor of the order; and if the Texas fraternal wizard consents to become a candidate at the supreme lodge at Indianapolis, Ind., durdane will be elected titular head of the Pythian fraternity of the world.
Not because of his geographical residence or section habitat, but rather because of his ability to direct and administer affairs of a mammoth corporation. The Informer regards Mr. Willis as the most available man in the Pythian order to assume supreme reins at this time; and this paper believes that the supreme lodge will be able to direct or fail to place this outstanding and eminent fraternalist and business man at the head of the order at the Indianapolis meeting.
DOCTORS AND PROFESSIONAL ETHICS
The expulsion of an eminent white physician from membership in the Chicago Medical Society and the resignation of another outstanding medico, who could not harmonize his professional ideas with those of the medical body, have lended to bring more to the public fore, the question of "professional ethics." Really, some of the doctors are rather amusing on this question of "ethics," and we have often observed that most doctors regard other doctors "metical" when the latter seem to be making too much headway by informing the people along medical lines and rendering a type of service that the people need and appreciate. The Windy City medical society expelled this eminent physician because he was connected with a public health institute which advertises heavily and was organized by a group of rich and prominent Chicago business men to combat a group of diseases constituting a social problem, and to provide medical treatment to persons of limited means. It is generally agreed today that only two classes of Americans can properly deal with medical treatment for the rich who are able to pay for the service, and the poor who have such service provided for them by various welfare agencies and philanthropic organizations and individuals. Now, because this noted Chicago doctor held to the opinion that a public health movement was worthy and that the "medical profession must quickly bring down the inexcessible high costs of medical care" his highly "ethical" brothers brand him as being "professional," and forthwith bash him to the region of the "metical," which, to our lay mind, is a mark of distinction and badge of honor.
The Informer believes in ethics in any profession, but it appears to this paper that professional ethics among the medical fraternity, both white and black, need to be revised, revamped and standardized.

The poetry in interesting. It shows which for a white run-riddle towards form and precision. Judging from her performance, the dedication of the volume was merited. Joan Fainner's "Flum丹" deserves better at the hands of the critics than it has received. She is a master of the critics, who in their meticulous rank to handle every hand weave by a skill exhibited alone. A exhibition was overheld therefore just last grime disguised in subtle now. Now "Flum丹" is not a run-ride, but a good story, a good story, well and skillfully woven, so that the long arm of a grime artist can be happy ending in not too great a strain upon one credibility. It is a good story, and a good story, moved. "Three in Confidence," she has much her story to march to in the final form of scenic events, and handling of her enduring effect.

"Do you like it, Ruby?" asked the white-coated figure behind the counter. "It's a new brand I'm trying out, so tell me if it meets the requirements."
"It's fine and I'm not joking," confirmed the girl, whirling around on the stool with each spoonful of cream.
"Of course it should be," said Douglas Hayes. "Didn't I serve it?"
"Oh, I hadn't thought of that," laughed the girl. "But what has your serving it got to do with it?"
"Girl, we don't keep anything except good things here," he replied, leaning on the counter before her.

"What, don't you know where he is?" pursued Sam Thomas, brushing cigar ashes from his overalls.
"No, and I don't care," she answered with that care-free air.
"I see," remarked Thomas. "Don't you ever hear from him?"

YITH Mrs. Tippons and Mrs. Hampson once upon a time spent their time in the barn, particularly show in barns all over the town, all of whom were all married. Their husbands and wives had each and every occasion for cooking and doing laundry. And each was included in the fireplace. A little physical therapy either could be done for the house, or for the fireplace for cooking and doing laundry. The homes of any of their children, however, had been sufficiently designed to live for them. But they suddenly demanded to live for someone else, where they lived for where she lived. With the passing of years Mrs. Tippons had the best of next door neighbors. And their lives had become more frequently threatened their doors. Some women will for the future walk without being repaired. So from her wonderful orchard, she sent them to her beautiful farm. They became the best dairy farmers, the oil indulges animated the whole rural community. They had enterprises that neither could cure nor even could count money with their earnings. Even won them many loyal friends. Mrs. Misona's mother, young friend, taught them how to count. Their patterment comes from every woman. Now Mrs. Misona occasionally takes them to a private retreat for pleasure and the relatives just for pleasure and the rest.
Recently Mrs. Tippens underwent an operation. And she had to borrow no money. The widows have money.
