Prairie View College has meant and
still means more to the Negroes of
our state than under-graduates than
from its walls have gone out more
graduates and under-graduates than

and daughters are contributing much
to solving problems of their day
and generation.
The campus is in farming and
industry. Prairie View is also the
state teacher-training school for Ne-
groes in the state training teachers, but it is the only state own and control-
institution training Negro teachers.
Washington, D. C.—(ANP) Perry Howard's resignation, which was tended the Department of Justice recently, has served two purposes. First, it has settled the question which was so prevalent—"what disposition will be made of Attorney Howard" and has reopened the discussion as to who will be the next special assistant to the attorney-general of the United States.
Individually following the inaugural of President Herbert Hoover there was much discussion as to the promulgation of the law, which would be awarded this portfolio, which has become parcel and post of the office, were freely named including some of the most prominent barristers of the land.
Leaving the roster was Attorney Robert L. Vann, who might not be claused as an aspirant but was a likeable man. A Calloway of Kansas City, Missouri, who is reputed to have the backing of Raymond Face Alexander, Philadelphia attorney, who headed the Negro campaign, well up in the rumors.
Howard Suspended When Indicted
Attorney Perry W. Howard was suspended from active duty when he was sent to the federal patronage acts. Since that time he has twice been exonerated of charges by the judge, and it was a possibility that he might be retained in the post His resignation Monica was reported to be it is reported that Mr. Howard had intimated or informed many of his close friends that he was not a candidate and would devote his time to practicing law here in Washington. Attorney General Michael in a statement to the judge resigned his resignation had not been requested.
NEGRO LEADERS GIRD FOR FIGHT IN MISSISSIPPI
Jackson, Mine.—(ANP)—That Negroes intend to fight against them from the G. O. P. in this state, is evidenced by the evidence that they have been allied throughout the state. They are girding for a battle to retain their rights to participate in the affairs of the state. They have been allied since the passage of the 14th and 15th amendments to the constitution. There is no wholesale disagreement with the movement to place the parish in the extension of the Negroes from the party. In general discussion with regard to the angested plan which would mean the extension of the Negroes from the party, we are willing to abide by the plan to build up the Republican party in this state, but we are unalterably opposed to the party counsels who are qualified, and we do not believe that the extension of the exclusion program. He has imprisoned many Negroes as being a high priority from the party prejudice of any kind.
Apparently the Negro Republicans Negroes on the patronage committee and other important committees of the state are fighting to the finish to gain their desire.

BLACKS BARRED AS JURORS; GIRL'S CASE REVERSED
New York—William T. Andrew, special legal assistant of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, is calling attention to a case in Oklahoma where the charge of murder was recently reversed because qualified Negroes had been excluded, because of their color from the jury list. The N. A. A. C. P. has sent for a court hearing of the criminal court of appeals of Oklahoma. Commenting on the decision in an editorial, the New York Law Journal says:
"In the recent case of Carrick v. State (274 Fac. Pac. 1986) Advance of the 1986 case, a young colored girl was convicted of murder. On appeal she complained that she was wrongly convicted of the laws, contrary to the guaranty of the 14th amendment, since citizens were excluded from the panel of jurors drawn to hear the testimony in her case. The defendant, who was excluded from the panel of jury to have come into existence. This unjust discrimination, if not for a new trial, since it contravened well settled constitutional principles. The defendant, who moved to the court, defended his case, to the court's ruling denying his motion, thus preserving the right to a trial of Oklahoma held that the trial court committed reversible error in overreaction of Oklahoma's laws against jurors, because it was admitted and admitted that the jury commissioners were guilty, because it was admitted, because of their color, citizens of the African race who were perfectly innocent, because of their color, citizens in a sound and wholesome ruling."
Washington, D. C.—(AMP)—Mrs. Annie E. Malone, president of Poro College, was among the recent visitors at Howard University.
One of the points of special interest Mr. Malone was the medical college where he was enrolled at $10,000 during the endowment fund campaign. in speaking to the students, he urged them to protect the investments of the donors by applying themselves diligently to their studies and by depleting them to making a life as well as a living.

FIRST SECTION—NUMBER 52
St. Louis Blacks Test Legality Of Segregation Pact
St. Louis, Mo.—(ANP)—A battle against the efforts of white property owners to prevent Negroes from owning or occupying homes in so-called "restricted neighborhoods," was launched here Tuesday when Attorney Homer Phillips, representing James T. Bush and Company, realtors, filed a petition against the granting of injunction restraining Negroes from living in the 4574 and 4875 blocks Delmar Boulevard.
The case came to a climax here Monday when Luther S. Taylor, David T. Taylor, Andrew A. Chandler, Charles L. Crow, Susan F. Crow, Arthur B. Rountail and Sade Bermel, filed a petition for injunction, prevented the T. Bush and Company from renting property on Delmar Boulevard to Negroes. The property was acquired by the Bush Company in 1926 and since that time has been tenanted by whites. Recently Mr. Bush, president of the company, signified that he planned to rent the property to Negroes and the fight started.
By renting the property to Negroes, of the privileges and immunity of the petitioners that Mr. Bush was violating covenant signed by property owners in the neighborhood, that purported restriction is further in conflict with the provisions of art. 156 of the state of Missouri, guaranteeing that the district in the district. In the petition filed by Mr. Phillips, it is pointed out that no such covenant existed and also denied the excuse by process of law."
The case is being watched closely by petitioned living in the city blocks as an
Against Constitutional Rights
Discussing the matter in its larger aspects, Mr. Phillips points out in his article that the injunction mentioned in the injunction against the selling, renting or occupying a building is "in contrary to the provisions of the fifth amendment of the constitution of the United States, section 104 of the Constitution, a restriction seeks to deprive the defendant of his property without due process." A restriction is an attempted abridgement.

SYLVAN TERRACE has been platted and is now being improved in a manner far exceeding anything that has ever been offered to the colored people of Houston. The developers of SYLVAN TERRACE have realized for many months that there is a demand for building sites by the best colored people of Houston in a highly developed and restricted subdivision, with the kind of an environment that would enable them to build homes and enjoy the comforts of life, knowing that when they built a nice home an unpainted shack or a group of rent houses would not be built by the side of it.
SECTION "A" of SYLVAN TERRACE will have every city convenience, including city water, fire protection, natural gas, telephone, electric lights, sanitary sewer, concrete sidewalks, concrete curb and gutter, and shell pavement from curb to curb.

New York City—(ANP)—One of the difficulties in the educational paths of colored students, especially colored girls, in the sentiment opposition to physical education colleges. The white girls will object, or the faculty pretends to believe they will object, to the privileges of the colored girls in the swimming pool, showcasing the sense of an exquisite explanation of the sense of any such objection, since these same white girls are willing for ignorant colored girls to cook and handle and taste out of the white girls' food, and to wash, cook, and eat in the kitchen, and other intimate belongings. This makes their objection to participating with clean, cultured, and intelligent Negro girls in any kind of school privilege an aburthity. Ruby Annie Pickle is the first colored girl to be admitted to the physical education school of New York University, and immediately entered Wadhee High School in January, and immediately entered Wadhee High School in June. She was registered in Smith College of Massachusetts, where her sister is, because of its regular accredited school of physical education for girls. She was interviewed by the examiner to be the first girl whose posture did not have to be corrected, and that this precedent will create a sentiment that will leave physical education in New York University to other colored girls in the FAIR ASSOCIATION ORGANIZED *Greenville* Miss.—(ANP)—The farm and home demonstration agents of the Delta counties have made plans to hold a Delta Fair Association for Negroes.

Dallas, Texas—Quincy J. Gilmore, T-O-L League president, attended the league opening at Shreveport recently as the guest of the local management of the Dallas and Houston teams in the season. This was the third city that the league preyed the honor of being present on the opening day. Dallas and Houston will be returning to league headquarters that he will from this time states that he will from this time to give to the press full details of the T.O-L Black Oil Maker made a quick get away by making a clean deal with the Dallas Giants. Cold weather seemed to take all of the fight out with some very hot weather for the month. The Gilmer will leave for a swing around its circuit right after the season.
The San Antonio Indians, who look like one of the best clubs in the South and the West, out of three from Houston, got an even break at Oklahoma City. They, along with the Oklahoma City club is going to be in the running. The two Oklahoma clubs spring in the season and they have much better clubs than at first given credit. Tulsa, under the former Negro National League pitcher, is going like a house affire. The Worth Warthens are able to have teams break even so far. This club will have several new players from Texas and as soon as school is out next week the Warthens will be able to break even so far. Catts, Coach English will take action against the club next week. The Wichita Falls will be the weak member of the league and Edward Manson, owner of the club, will be the new players from the other club.

Alloway, N. J.—(ANP)—The attempt on the part of white citizens to drive out a family, because it was rumored that the women were of Negro lineage, ended in the shooting of two men, and the arrest of two members of the family.
This town has a hard fast rule that "no Negroes are allowed" which is interpreted to mean that Negroes were allowed to drive out the sunset, and then is no deny to officials or even ministers who preach the "brotherhood of man" in the pulpits on Sunset. Robinson secured work in a local lumberyard and moved his family to Alloway. Everything worked in the grandmother of Mrs. Robinson and her sister, a Mrs. Fleming, was arrested. Added to the rumor that Negro blood flowed through the women's veins, and women. Neither charge had been proved but rumor was enough. Night night the neighbors descended upon the Robinson family with advice that they would have to get out. In contradiction to this rather pessimistic view of the Nero, in an article titled *In the Courtroom*, Mrs. Wimbredia is the referee of the case, and she is to come to her work nearly three years ago with a Ph. "Quicktime thinks as you are reading it, that it is of comparative unimportance. What is story of a fair girl, a wail almost, who finds that life is easily switched to the dominant key! Columbus, Miss.—(ANP)—Cattle ruthing in Lowndes and Nuxebue counties is印织ed outby the capture of Son Newman, Jimmie Martin, Lirey Davis, Booster Jones and Leviatt.
Investigation by officers revealed that the Negroes were tools of white men, and is under way for the "minder minds."
In the meantime officers continue to seek the slayer of Sandy Green, who knew too much, because he knew too much, and is trying. The theory is that Green's slayer might out to be the ring leader "of the white men."

JEREMIAH CALLS TO OBEDIENCE
LESSON TEXT= Jeremiah 7:1-26
GOLDEN TEXT= Hezekiah unto my voice,
and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people.
PRIMARY TOPIC—Obey God, the Lord
INTERMEDIATE AND SENDER TOPIC—Do what God Command,
the Lord Command, the coming together of the people from all over the country to attend some feast.
The people give way (v. 32).
1. Amend your ways (v. 32).
2. Your general course of living should be reformed, deeds giving place to goodness. On the basis of this reform, the people should remain in their city and country. Failure to do this would evictate in their expulsion.
3. The people租住 in religious forms (v. 4).
4. The people租住 the temple as a charm against with irrespective of the condition of their lives. The most sacred institutions and ordinances are valueless.
5. Social justice (v. 3).
6. The proof of their having reigned the execution of judgment between man and his neighbor.
7. The proof of one's being in touch with God is his fine dealing with his felicitation.
II. The Hospitious Condition of the People (v. 10:30)
There is propensity to do evil was no strong force all offers at reclamation wired fire.
I pray not for them (v. 16).
There is such a thing as sinning as when a man is in a state of case prayer is useless (J. 5:16).
2 Entire families devoted their energies to that which provoked God's anger (v. 11:19).
They were young and old-children and women. This they did to provoke God's anger. He assured them the outcome of such conduct would be thiear after confusion. (v. 20).
Because the people poured out their offerings to idols, the furious anger and wrath of God would be poured into the ground. This fruit of the ground. How this has been fulfilled, the history of the Jews makes clear. V. Oidence Better than Sarcasthenic (v. 1). The prophet appealed to history to show that God requires heart service rather than the observance of reverence through obedience, while cursing followed disobedience. On the condition of obedience to his requirements, he and his people to bless them.
Confidence in Prayer
This is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask what follows according to Him will, he hears us, and if we know that He hears us, he will. We have the petitions that we desired of Him.—J 5:14, 15.
No Discharge in That War
There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit neither hath power in the day of death; and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickness be given to the enemy. 6 Given to I-II. Ecclesiastes 8. 15

FIELD HAND HAS WORD TO TEXAS NEGRO BAPTISTS
Baptists of Texas:
It has been some time since I have said a word to the public or to the church, and I have been waiting to see what would be the turn of the meeting called by the receiver.
I am writing to the Baptists of Texas and to the churches, as well as an individual who has been waiting to see what we have peace! God must be with us because in every court we have won. Rev. Brown and Rev. Wilson got out an injunction to restrain us from taking any action in the injunction set aside and we did meet in Fort Worth. One hundred and sixty-nine churches represented and every church had elected from one to three messengers—men who came for the meeting and were in the condition of the denomination and to know as individuals what was the real status of affairing with the really owed. We found that out. After the receiver made his report it
Verily, I believe that from now on we will have peace throughout the world, and we will have a brotherhood to study their guides. No one man in American can govern a Baptist church. A Baptist church is a place where people can send messengers to meetings instructed to act for her. People should know that they should be prepared, even if they have attempting to dictate to the Baptists what they should do, could not understand, or little Baptist preacher in this state.

CHURCH WOMEN URGE JUSTICE FOR NEGROES
Atlanta, Ga.—The organized women of the M. E. Church, Numurm, give their support to the provision of interracial justice and participation in the improvement of Negro school facilities, in an appeal urged by the Bujicee Social Service Conference of the Missionary Council recently held here.
Reaffirming their "adherence to the interracial platform of goodwill and cooperation," the conference recognized their obligation to keep clearly in view "the needs of Negroes as individuals, as parents and children, and as people whose aspirations for education and career opportunity should continue."
"Since education is a prune condition of character and office, it is important to engage in a definite study of Negro school in their communities, the education of buildings, sanitation, space, lighting, equipment, location, grounds, and preparation. We recommend that this be done in cooperation and with the purpose of sponsoring Negro citizens of the community, and with the purpose of sponsoring Negro elementary school what any school for any child ought to be, and further, within the reach of all Negro boys and girls who aspire for higher pre-arithmetic. The statement, which was adopted unanimously, was drafted by Mrs. Reeves and Mrs. Eleanor Young of Tennessee and Mrs. Eleanor Young of Kentucky; Mrs. S.W. Henry of South Carolina; Mrs. Maud Huntley of Chicago; Mrs. J. Dale Stenz of North Carolina.
Little Rock Home
Bombed By Whites
Little Rock, Ark.—(ANP) A bomb thrown at and exploded in Little Rock, Ark., robbed the front, porch of the dwelling and injured five members of the family, here early Thursday morning. The explosion, which shattered all of the buildings in the town, thought to have been the culmination of a series of threats made against Mr. Locus. His statement to the police said he felt this belief when he advised officers that he had been threatened once, whom or the reason for the threats.

SOME STARTLING REVELATIONS!
The report of William Madison McDonald, appointed receiver for the Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention of Texas by a district court in Tarrant County, shows that, aside from the fact that the denominational corporation is burdened with a tremendous debt, some of the conventional leaders have been pulling off some rather funny and shady transactions. In addition, some of the people of this state, both Baptists and members of other denominations, wondered why certain Baptist leaders were fighting so hard to keep the facts from being divulged regarding the condition of the convention; but since the publication of Receiver McDonald's report in last week's issue of this paper, it is readily apparent why certain "big guns" among Texas Baptists opposed so vehemently and determinedly any and all efforts to make public the status of the convention's finances during preceding regimes. Not only did the receiver's report disclose a shortage or unaccounted for sum in excess of $25,000, but it also revealed the starting point of some of the municipal luminaries and official lights have been guilty of some rather rotten acts and of staging some tricks hardly becoming denizens of the underworld. It seems that some of the denominational leaders, who were given the cash money by their associations and churches to represent them in the state convention, put the money in their "jeans" and then tendered the convention their personal checks for said amounts. This act in itself was not unworthy or an honorable man, if he took care of his personal check when presented at his bank for collection; but in most of these instances these Baptist leaders redemined these "hot checks," and Receiver McDonald's report showed that several of them remain unpaid and unhonored yet.
The report showed that one Baptist associational and conventional leader has thus far failed to redeem a "hot check" for $300, while still another associational leader has a $500 check unpaid due to "Mr. Insufficient Funds." Personal checks aggregating over $1,500 remain unpaid, as shown by the report. The report also shows that he is not to his profession and gentry when he fails to pay a bet, keep his word, or redeem a pledge; yet we have the sad and sickening spectacle of men who call themselves "children of God," religious leaders and "lights of the world," giving bogus checks after appropriating to their own use the money given them by associations and churches for the cause of missions and education. It takes theakes theakes that is not enough merely to disclose this matter and then crooked and shady transactions, but the guilty persons ought to be indicted and convicted for the misappropriation of conventional funds.
A first of certified accountants ought to be employed to audit the books of the Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention of Texas, and where such shortages and crooked deals are disclosed, the criminal courts should take action against the parties involved and bring them to tawf or not being able to differentiate between the crooked and shady transactions. It has often been rumored that this giving of "hot checks" by certain conventional leaders and denominational ministers has been a general practice, and that after a year or so these "bogus checks" have been destroyed, resulting in the convention losing such sums of money as tendered it through these unredeemed checks.
No minutes of the convention have been printed in the past decade and the books were only available to the members of the "inner circle," it has been a rather easy matter for such discrepancies, shortages and crooked transactions to "get by."
It matters not who is chosen as leader of the Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention of Texas, with the present cloud and shame over denominational affairs of a financial nature, it will be difficult to deny the importance of defence in the conventional leadership until the persons guilty of all this misapplying and misappropriating of the people's money are sentenced to the state penal institution at Huntsville.
Receiver McDonald's report was not only a financial statement showing conventional assets, liabilities, shortages, etc., but it made the startling revelation that the conventional affairs have been used to manipulate the grant and shocking manner by men in whom the people reposed confidence, to whom they entrusted their money and whose conventional program the poor, but honest, church members supported financially, morally and otherwise.
It is time not only to chase the "money changers" and "hot check artists" out of the convention, associations and churches, but also to ensure that he be made to feel the turn and firm hand of the law. Selah!
UNITED FRONT NEED OF HOUR
Newspaper dispatches from all sections of the country indicate that the American Negro is facing one of the most stubborn and formidable fights in the history of the race in America, and, unless the black man unites his forces and presents a solid front against the infernal and insidious attack of this hideous, hydra-blethous man, he will be unable to resist the every vestige of his political, civic and economic rights and warranties within the next decade or two.
The black man who can not read the signs of the times and give the proper interpretation thereto, is thrice doomed already; for it is a trite aphorism applicable to our predicament, just as true today as when originally threw, that "he who would be free, himself must strike the first blow. He must strike up with painful regularity in different sections of the country, and a determined effort seems able to even prescribe the metes and habitations of the
black race in this reputed "land of the free and home of the brave."
To further their program of restricted residential districts, these foes to orderly government and traducers of democracy, are resorting to violence and terrorism in their maddened and frenzied attempt to intimidate and frighten the colored man who dares to attack them. While these proponents of segregation are raising huge sums of money to vigorously prosecute their cause, and are employing bomb-throwers, vandals and anarchists in the execution of heathenism and hellish program, most of our people are sitting supinely by and trusting solely and only in the "good white folks and the Lord," or holding mass-meetings and passing empty and meaningless resolutions, deploring this and denouncing that, but all breaking for the door when the suggestion is made that a black man should obey a counsel and fight the matter out through the courts of the land.
Our chief stock in trade, even until this good day, seems to be loquacity, and that at the "big gate"; for very few will talk out loud at the proper time and back up their talk with coin of the realm and concerted action for the best interests of all concerned.
The black man has a peculiarly odd sense of reasoning, always figuring that what is happening to some other member of his racial group will never become his lot; and that Mr. So and So, his battleship, will never be his lot, that he must be a black man) is an exceptional Negro and that no harm will ever befall him—not as long as he "stays in his place."
Whenever a colored editor or speaker begins to advise Negroes to unite and stick together for their own best interests and welfare, the advice is more or less misinterpreted and misunderstood, often intentionally; many claiming that the Negroes are being advised to "rise up against the whites," and many black men are being advised to "be more aggressive." The Informer—in suggesting that the Negroes of America, and particularly the South, must organize their forces and meet the challenge hurled at them and theirs by the arch-encyanism and democracy, Race Prejudice—does not mean to convey the idea that Negroes should resort to violence and civil insurrection to attain the desired end, but that they should pool their resources, subordinate their personal and petty interests, envies and prejudices, to maintain security and peacefully, for justice, equality and a fair and square deal.
All forms of injustices and inequalities are manifest in this country, with the black man as their main object and chief victim, among which are lynching, disfranchisement, segregation, "jim-crowism," proscription and a double standard of citizenship. If the black man ever becomes an entity in the life of this country; if he is to be treated and regarded as other races in our society, among whom are lynching, disfranchisement, segregation, reverbs warranted and guaranteed him under the constitution of this country, he must awake from his Rip Van Winkle snooze and do something for himself!
We have operated too much along the individualistic line, often employing tactics of the ostrich (burying our heads in the sand and not beholding the attacking elements or forces, as if such procedure removed the danger or altered the situation), and we have not gotten very far in securing and maintaining our inalienable and sacred rights and privileges.
When legislation and measures are proposed and passed that are imminent and hostile to other racial groups in this country, they will raise big sums of money to defeat both the measure and it proponent or proponents; but with us we begin to engage in our favorite pastime, singing our national anthem, and bewailing that we must not utter our tangleable or concrete to seek redress from such evils and ills.
The Negro, both of the North and South, must sooner or later come into a realization of the fact that his interests are mutual, and that neither the life nor property of any member of the race is safe or secure as long as we are victims of colorophbia and its various ramifications.
The second emancipation of the race must be effected by the race, for while Lincoln's emancipation publication took us out of the dark, it has also its own improvement. To put over this or any other program the race must develop and select its own leadership, and cease submitting meetly and docilely to a superimposed leadership, which, so often, will sell the race's birthright for a mess of porridge.
The path to complete emancipation from the injustices and inequalities of our day and time is not stream with sweet-scented flowers, nor is it free from ruts, bad bridges and dangerous roads. But the race can be made to the nerve can ever hope to negotiate this road and reach its destination.
Sehh!
MORE INTEREST IN VITAL MATTERS
"Taking too much for granted," has proved the undoing of many men, races and nations, and that man, race or nation is wise and prudent that does not follow such a dangerous course.
As a young race, the Negro needs to manifest more interest in matters that vitally and directly affect the group; and we, racially speaking, should not expect other races to be more concerned and interested in us and ours than we are ourselves.
We must not sit down and wait for other races to provide places for our youth, nor should we become complacent and expect other races to fight our political, economic, social, educational and religious battles.
Only cowards flinch at the sight of opposition and flee post-hassle from the face of conflict, whether martial or peaceful in its nature; for the greatest battles of our day and generation are not won with carnal weapons, such as guns, gas and other implements employed upon the military battlefield; but these conflicts are opposed and won by peaceful means, such as the organization of forces, cooperation, team work, moral courage and an intense interest in all matters of vital concern.
Despite the fact that thousands, perhaps millions, of colored children are being educated daily in the public schools of the South, the Negro race manifests such little interest in its children's welfare that it (the race) sits supinely by and permits other races not only to outline the courses of study, but to select the teachers; often resulting in many unfit and unworthy personnel in our children.
No other group of polylot population would meekly submit to such procedure, nor would any other racial entity fail to show more concern in the educational training and development of its youth.
As direct and indirect taxpayers, the Negroes of the South ought to request the local boards of education to provide for colored advisory committees, composed of the best Negroes of the communities, to counsel and advise with the school boards in the selection of Negro teachers and other matters affecting Negro public schools. We should not be more than whites, and if we do not know the type of teachers and others things we prefer for our children, then we are in a very sad plight.
When we supplant complaint with action and moral cowardice with moral courage, the race's status in this section is going to undergo a complete metamorphosis; but this task is devolved upon our racial shoulders and not upon the shoulders of other races.
It is time for Negroes to think and act and stop whining and singing their national anthem, "the blues."

among American citizen should be based upon race and color. Just so long as the states insist in imposing such invidious distinction, just so long should the disadvantaged group embarrass the courts to fix a scientific measure, the Negro? How does the jury know that but any given person of color has the requisite quota of white blood? What right have the authorities to make an judge unintelligent conductor a judge of ethnological values? I see that Mr. Louis Marshall has insisted this trouble. What the instance of segregation in a case now on its way to the supreme court The court of last resort will probably dodge the definition. There is no possible excuse for the federal government to make race and color distinctions among citizens. Whatever color someone is, the federal government non-white contingencies may feel they have for setting up these distinctions, the general government is under no such pressure. The element under discussion constitutes less than ten percent of the total population. The federal government does not deal with intimate social and personal relations between people of different broad and general schools which apply to all alike. The federal government can not afford to set up separate car, separate schools and separate residential areas for the different racial varieties within its borders. In so doing it stifles its high pretension to the law, which can only mean the identical protection of the law for all citizens.
The best definition which I have been able to devise of a Negro is any who would be jim-crowned in Virginia. More comprehensively, a Negro may be defined as a non-white person of African derivation. All such definitions must be based upon common objections. The judgment that he be no scientific or legal definition that will hold water. The judgment depends wholly upon individual observation. Blood composition cannot be definitely determined. I was sitting on the steps facing a popular thoroughfare discourasing with a good friend of me who emphatically declared that he was not a Negro. I engaged to impain a jury of the first person putting my friend's face in evidence as exhibit "n," and submit the case without argument.
Deer Lee:
It will be interesting to watch the sparring match between Mr. Marshall and the supreme court over the issue of whether a skillful piece of judicial dodging.
THE MIRROR
A people with the inferiority complex are naturally sensitive. They are most particular about the name by which they are designated. A missionary among the Japanese reports that, they resent being called "Japs." At a recent meeting of a Methodist conference, a white visitor perfectly, inimicently related a "darkey" stair, to a woman who was resentment. This term has become almost as opprobrious as the word "nigger."

Aside from the fact that a rigid emphasis must be placed on the fact that "satisfactorily" to be held of these schools, it is stated on good authority that both, were subjected to all kinds of insults and rebuffs by their white fellows. Negroes became disgusted and exasperated and withdrew from the schools.

When it is borne in mind that Nebraska is a peace-time population as well as the military units in martial times, it is important to recognize the central government to pursue such a mean and prejudicial policy regard the Negroes at Annapolis and West Nebraska.
The *term Negro* has become so firmly fixed in our language and expression that one can hardly see how it can ever be eradicated, however much it may be objected to. It is not white, white and black, who uses the language powerfully and persuasively. It does not carry with it necessarily reproachful significance. It is necessary to use some descriptive terms separating the so-called Negro from the white and black American citizens. The race, so-called, is the most distinctive group into which our populace is divided. Various synonymic terms are in vogue. "Colored" serves the purpose in some applications; "Afro-American" in others. At least one journal suggests that the word Negro is used to omit the word Negro from discussion of the problem which his presence constitutes is but verbal gymnastics, leading from nowhere to nowhere. In some applications the terms are imperative to give forcefulness and meaning to the *Negro Year Book* or "The Journal of Negro History?"

While this columnist would not dare paint a dark and dismal picture in his book, he would have children and parents in the photojournal. He very apparent that modern-day parents are not devoting enough time in their lives to training their children. While it requires some time to impart such training to our children, it is important that they rent can make in his or her child; for well-bred and trained children will learn to dress properly and dress without such manners will fail dismayly, even though the latter may have superior advantages and opportunities.

Far be it from us to hark back to when we were children. For they say they who engage in the learning years or old age) but we believe that we have devoted more time and attention to their children and are training their children and aiding them in their homes, with excellent manners, we are forced to conclude that our parents are very smart.
I have heard serious and sincere persons express the belief that all of the evil of the group grew out of the evil of the name and you change the name and you improve the status. It is hard for me to respect this view, although some highly respectable people entertain it. It has ordinarily seemed to me to be a waste of time and effort in the face of race nomenclature. There used to be a floating saying in South Carolina —"You may call me what you please, since you call me in time for dinner." This, of course, implies that no information is meaning is conveyed by the entitlement.
No wonder so many of our racial youth are in trouble and cause trouble to many sleepy nights—they are not receiving the type of training they need, and they simply revert to type when they reach the period of adolescence and young manhood or womanhood. While it is right and proper that the educational development of their children, this educational preparation must be by the right kind of home training, and the place extant where children can learn manners and other habits which will make them credit or debate to society.
The several Southern states have their own legal definition of a Negro. In most instances, it includes all persons of African descent to the extent from one-sixteenth to sixteen-eighteenth of African blood. And yet there is found nowhere any exact blood tester to determine the prescribed proportion. Evidently it can not be acertained from the putative pa-tition of physical appearance. It all depends upon the haspazard. For many reasons, social and sociological, it is highly desirable that we be able to fix the racial placement of an individual. But I do not believe that any legal distinctions

See how easy it is! Simply dip your fingers into Pluko Hair Dressing, massage it gently but thoroughly into the scalp, and arrange your hair in a becoming style.
That is all. Pluko does the rest---quickly and naturally. Hot irons and hours of tedious combing are unnecessary. As a result of its nourishing oils reaching every root, your hair attains the smoothness and lustre of natural beauty.
Then, too, Pluko softens the hair and keeps it from being stiff and wiry. This does away with the bother of training your hair in one style. You can change to new styles as often as you please and still be assured that your hair will stay in place.
But let Pluko Hair Dressing prove its effectiveness. Get a can of this dainty preparation and take these three steps to soft, straight, beautiful hair today!
