SPRING MUSIC FESTIVAL
PROPOSED GOODWILL TOUR
SCHOOL TRUSTEES ELECTION
FLOWERS FOR THE LIVING
Next Tuesday night, April 5
promptly at $25 o'clock, the fifth
spring musical festival, presented an
entertainment program for the Club,
will be given at the City Auditorium,
at which time music lovers of
this city and section are assured a
spectacle. According to the directors of
the club, P. O. Smith, there will be
a concert with the festival next Tuesday
night, and the program will be no vague
description, but should be pleased satisfied.
In short, to paraphrase the advertising
slogan of a certain brand of
sunglasses, this musical festival
the last note.
Hereof this musical organization
has placed a Negro welfare agency
the principal beneficiary
of the festival, annual concerts, but this year the clubs
plans to employ the money to create
a trip for the organization to the National Association of Negro Musicians
in Chicago during August.
If sufficient funds are realized from this festival for this purpose (and it will be used for the unanticipated unselfish and humanitarian service this club has rendered in Houston and the United States, and unanticipated and whole-hearted support of both races in making this proposed festival a success), plans to attend the National Negro Business League at Detroit, during the 1931 session, would help to land the 1931 session of the league for "Heavenly Houston." This organization, founded by the founder of the Negro Business League in Washington and presided over by the chairman of theton, Mr. Washington is successor both the University Institute and as titular chairman of the national meeting in Texas, and the national meeting in Houston, where he gave on record recording Houston as host for the 1931 session. In other words, the club plans to plan a conference on the proposed trip, which will make with the purpose of making money, but with the favorable sentiment for our community. Never before in the history of this country, North or South, East or West, the Negro musical and Negro musical organization essayed such a goodwill tour in the interest of the unanticipated unselfish and humanitarian program next Tuesday evening in Houston and assist the club to attain its goal.
The voters of the Houston Independent School District will be called upon Saturday, April 6 to elect candidates who will serve for the next two years. The eight candidates in the field, four from the first two, four being in the race for the first three. The four members seeking reelection are: Dr. Ray K. Day, D.K. C. Barkley, W. B. Bates, Mrs. B. F. Gossett. Those seeking the office for the first time are: B. P. Fans, Dale C. Barkley, B. P. Bates and Mrs. W. Sackett. While information such, this information thinks that the four members seeking reelection deserve to be maintained on the local education. Whether you think this way or not, you should cast your ballot for four of these eight candidates. All qualified voters and the polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in public schools in the forefront by voting for the four best qualified candidates in the race. This columnist is deeply indebted to Guess Floral Company, 314 McGowen Street, presented to us last week. Undoubtedly, Mr. Comie Guesse, progressive flower shop, believes in the living for as well as the dogs.
We rather relish the idea of receiving some of our flowers while we are in the garden. We are accustomed to scented aromas of the flowers, whether in the form of flower bouquets or words of encouragement. The company is one concern which has no racial barriers and deserves the support and patronage of the flowers for any and all occasions.

FELLOWSHIP TO NEGRO AUTHORS BY GUGGENHEIM
New York City—(ANP)—Included in the announcement of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, made Saturday, of this year's awards, the winners' awardships to 85 scholars, novelists, postpos, copiers, sculptors and painters who will go abroad to do creative work and research, are the names of the nominees—one novelist and one Negro scholar.
The novelist is Mrs. Nella Larsen Imes, who, according to Harry Haney, has proved her ability to write, proficiency within the limits of the conventions of the English language, author of "Quirkish" and "Passing." Extended comment was made last week by Lewis, an English critic, in his ful and logical study of race relations.
The scholar who will receive an award in order to devote time to an author of history at Howard University, Dr. Wesley has already written a memoir, Dr. Wesley will make a study of Negro always apprenticeship in the 1800s in the United States in 1807 to 1830.

Little Rock, Ark. —(ANP)—Rules of the Democratic party in Arkansas denying Negroes the right to participate in party primaries were upheld by the court. An appeal taken to the higher court by several members of the Democratic party, e.l.a. im g their exclusion from Democratic primaries last fall was a violation of the 14th and 16th amendments to the United States was denied. In denying the appeal the supreme court declared that no state law had been passed depriving qualified electors the right to vote on account of color but that as a result of the Supreme Court was unconcerned, did this the appeal was without the jurisdiction of Arkansas courts.

Clarence Darrow, returning from Europe, says that the United States has a strong culture among the nations of the earth, among true, as one easily realizes when one meets a man who tells truth. Individual Americans may not friends in other lands, but not America. It seems that a certain rich man is acting and so exclusive, that everybody is about to wish his death as an act of love. The family means to come into benefits. The man to whom everybody is in debt, is not a very welcome sight nor a pleasing anticipation to anybody. USEFUL MIXTURE FOR LENT
Changed eating habits confront the challenge of a new season. Fish, of course, is a first thought at this time. But sea foods, however artfully prepared, lose their flavor and become less daily habit. Salads offer a welcome change—particularly when they are good to mix with a delicious mixture which—because it has many uses—is always good to have around. Vegetables are prepared at hand during the winter season and may be prepared and cooked in the refrigerator to ready to serve in cocktail.

Mr. White was expelled from the superior court, by Henry P. FIELDing, former assistant district attorney of Suffolk County, appointed master to the probation office, and able to the respondents. Mr. White was admitted to the record of Mr. White. To have been of a high order, and she was at the same time not only carrying on her work at the school, but was also attending to household records. According to Mr. Fielding, there was no basis for Mr. White's claim against the examination because of color or color
"I find," said Mr. Fielding, "that the law of the school was justified in believing that the school had been in the best position, that Mrs. White using legal aid improperly obtained loan and school to improperly obtain loan and defect legal claims against her for such merchandise obtained on credit while she was in the school, she was further improperly using such further improperly instituted knowledge and more creative methods, others, including Chief Hill of the Evergreen police department, the city of Evergreen, and a suit against the clerk of the district of Eastern Middlebury for shamier."

REPUBLICAN PARTY LEADERSHIP
In a recent editorial, The Informer discussed the report of the
senna (hrokhart) investigating, amie, which exon
certain, practices publican party’ leaders in. the
South, Totas included: which fended to show thet some ef the Ie
Dublin rary lade are gtr the growth and deveopment
af the party in saveral of the stats.
‘Now, the chairman of the Republican national executive com-
mittee, who was elevated 0 hi present post-at the suggestion of
President Herbert C. Hoover, according to newspaper reports at
the time of his promotion, hax been accused of committing cer-
taln indirect’ and unethical acts, and sentiment. seems to be
gathering volume and momentum throughout the country’ that
Another ma should head the party's national machinery.
"tis said that the White Houne does not look with much favor
upon Afr. Huston being retained in his present party post, due to
his Tobby activities und other ramifications.
‘Apparently, some of the Repablican leaders have become some-
what uncaay, particularly those who will sek offices in the gen
tral lection next November, and there is an undercurrent for a
new chairman of the national executive committee.
‘While The Informer was one of the first papers in the country
to boost the present executive of the republic for the highest elee-
tive office within the gift of the American electorate, it seems to
tus that Mr. Hoover ia bungling up matters considerably, and that
‘many of his backers and supporters will find it Increasingly dif
fcalt to endorse some of the presidential moves and yestures.
Uniraind- inthe achool of practical politica, some of the pres
ents ‘strokes seem to be going awry and this selection
of the Tennessee lodbyist to direct national partisan affairs does
not appear as a master move, nor a wise choice.
Tnstead of proving an axscrt to the Republican party, it seems
that the preskdont’s man is about to become a lability: and at a
UUme when the party can il afford to lose any of the ground ft
saint in 1928.
‘Several United States senators and congressmen will be nomi-
nated during the spring and summer and will be elected at the
eneral eeetion ‘Tuewiay, Noveraber 4, 1980; and these Republi
an candidates, whether seeking reelection or aspiring for office
theis firs time, do.not care to be burdened with the job of trying
fofsalain the tion and fend the action of hin party cit
‘Tnstead of endeavoring to reward so many of his personal
fiends, it strikes The Informer that President Hoover should ns
