Stamps as minister and Bro. Chas Rhodes, Jessee Hardy; Mike Smith as deacon was witnessed by a packed house. Rev. C. W. Cole, preached a strong sermon at eleven O'clock; Rev. Stamps, preached his trial sermon at 3:00 and Rev. G. W. Rowlett, preached the ordination sermon at night which will be long remembered by people of Joppa. There were severas visitors from Metropolis to witness the ordination. The offering for the day was $22 05. Several of the church went on an outing to Mermet. Tuesday, in honor of sister Della Cole. We setved dinner on the ground and fished to our own satisfaction. Miss Macie Barnett of Mutray Ky., is visiting her father Clem Barnett. Died Miss Fannie Crouse, an old citizen of Metropolis and highly respected lady, died Monday afternoon after a few days illness. The funeral took place Wednesday at 2 p. m. at the Antioch Baptist church of which she was a faithful member. Rev. Thos. Morris, pastor Initiating. Rev J. O. Griffin of Paducab Ky. offered prayer, Rev. G. T. Hamilton read the scriptures, and J. B McCrary made the closing remarks. The Ruth lodge of which she was a member turned out and had control of the funeral. They presented a good appearance. The remains were placed in the Masonic cemetery to await the resurrection morn. She leaves three brothers, one sister and several relatives to mourn their loss. Geo. L. B. McCrary, Undertaker. Peace her ashes. The body of Mr Andrew Waters was stipped here from Kansas City Kim-as He was a plasterer by trade, and while at work, fell from a sceffold, killing him instantly. More later. Tenn., Feb. 19th 1859. Departed this life Aug. 23rd 1920. She professed a hope in Christ forty three years ago and connected herself with the Missionary Baptist church. She was a consistent and faithful member in her church. She leaves to moutn their loss one sister, three brothers and a host of relatives and friends. Dear Sister we miss you and hate to give you up. But God knew best and has taken you home, to Heaven to rest. We give you up with sorrow in our hearts, But earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal. Gaskins left Sunday for Toledo, Ohio where he will reside for a while. His wife will join him in the near future. Mrs. Parthenia Dixon of Paducah Ky., was in the city on business Tuesday. Rev. V. S. Smith, the popular pastor of Washington St., Baptist church, of Paducah, Kentcky was in the city Monday, and preached a most excellent at the Antioch Baptist chureh. We pity that soul whose religion will not bind him sufficiently strong enough to enable him to rise above his evil companions sufficiently high and long enough to allow his light, (life) to shine forth to illuminate the pathway of some poor sinner that will lead him into that path that shines more and more until the perfect day We have several good preachers that are idle that would make good pastors if they were given a chance. Every church large or small should have a pastor, and carry out the great commission of Jesus. Ye should be doers of his word and not hearers only. Heed this message and herald it to the lost and benighted world. Every church door in Southern Illinois should be thrown open at least twice every Sunday that the gospel might be preached to every creature. Let none hear you idly saying there, is nothing you can do while the souls of men are dying all around you without any hope for the future life and happiness. Mrs. Ora Cork, and son Willow of Lovejoy, who have been visiting the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Winston, returned to their home Sunday. Mrs. Elizabeth Lassiter, of Belgrade, is very sick. Mrs. Williams returned Monday from Cairo, where she has been visiting. Miss Eveline Randolph, of Cairo, is in the city, at the bedside of her uncle Geo. Ramsy, who is has been very sick. Mrs Minnie Newell, returned home Sunday from an extended visit wth relatives in East St. Louis, and St. Louis, Mo. Mrs. Ella Warfield was called back to Galesburg, on account of the illness of her daughter. Mrs, Fannie Wilson, of St. Louis, Mo. who is in the city at the bedside os her cousin E. S. B. McCrary is indisposed this week. Booker T. Blackwell, happened to an accident while at work, by falling. He is somewhat better.
