Polecat Bill stole a march on his Democratic friends and got the nomination for state senator. Of course there will be some sore spots on the fellows that also ran. The Republican party is in better shape today than ever before in the history of the party in the new state. DeGraffenreid and Jackson are two Democrats who have been nominated and who will make very strong races. Both of them are good men and good lawyers. The republican party will have to put out splendid men to beat them. And Lew Betts who offered himself as a sacrifice by making the Negro the chief issue in his platform did not get a single vote. It is to the everlasting credit of the democracy that they ignored this panderer to strife. The Democrats here held their primary election and up to this good no one really knows who was nominated. Nearly all of the statesmen claim that they have been selected. There will be a 'ell of a time when these warring factions meet in convention? The Summer Normal(Colored) is now being held at Dunbar school. There about one hundred teachers in attendance and they all praise greater Muskogee. The town of Rentiesville will soon be incorporated and promises to be one of the best trading points on the M. K. & T. Ry. In the event of an election, we may not be able to elect all the county officers but we have a lead pipe cinch on a majority of them. If the constitution should be adopted no poor man or man of moderate means need ever as pire to position and office in the new state. Democrats are now accusing Democrats of stuffing the ballot box and of fraud. This is just what we have been charging them with for many years and so at last they enter with their tardy plea of guilty. All the Republican papers are now a unit against the constitution but if Polecat Bill and his fellows can see the error of their ways, go back to Guthrie and eliminate the objectionable features of the constitution we yet may have an election and statehood. The Henry Asp constitution would fill the bill. But oh well then, you can never get a Democrat to do the right thing for the moment he begins to do right he ceases to be a Democrat. If the Democratic testimony regarding Democartic candidates is true, the affairs of the state should not be intrusted to them under any consideration. A primary election seems to mean the election of the worst men while a convention always selects the best men. The eyes of the whole nation are upon Oklahoma and Indian Territory. Particularly are investors and home seekers watching us. Let us then see to it that we gain their confidence by right under a new enabling act and a new constitution that will be fair aud just to all. Never should there be such an apportionment that 400 voters should have a representation in the legislature or courts equal to 4000 elsewhere. Why should Oklahoma not have as good schools as any other state? It would be impossible, however, under the Murray onstition. The constitution not only would keep ont prospective investors and home seekers but would drive away many now here. No 37 The Murray constitution is doomed. The membership of the Non- Partisan Anti-Constitution League is growing daily. The political features of the constitution are bad enough, but there are other features still worse and the provisions of that document as a whole are simply intolerable. The defeat of the constitution should not a be partisan matter. Every loyal citizen should unite in the rejection of such outrageous provisions. The young men of the new state should see to it that statehood comes under conditions fair and just to all. THE PRIMARY FIASCO. Two things have been most emphatically demonstrated by the Democratic primary. First, that it is a failure in bringing out the best men. As conducted here the people had nothing to say about candidates. The poor man or the man with moderate means had no show whatever. The office could not seek the man—the man (who had the price) sought the office—and the result of such a campaign must be that the man with the most money or the least scruples will win. Another result of the primary just closed, and a result full of chagrin for the Democrats, was the small vote cast. Decent Democrats are simply disgusted with the whole business. They are becoming convinced that the constitution is a most vicious document and while as a party they are not all ready to vote against it, yet it was apparent by the light vote of last Saturday that nearly half of the party will not vote for it. Send in your subscription to the Cimeter. $1.00 per year. Muskogee Cimeter. W. H. TWINE, Editor. MUSKOGEE. IND. TER. Dan Cupid. A pleasant feature of the congressional parties that make journeys abroad is the fact that Dan Cupid seems always to be a passenger. He went to the Philippines, and three matches resulted. Mr. Longworth, of Ohio; Mr. Cockran, of New York, and Mr. Sherley, of Kentucky, all surrendered to influences insuring their happiness for life. And now the steamer Bluecher is no sooner docked on her return with the Cannon party from the West Indies than the engagement of two of the company is announced. What is it that makes love the prevailing and compelling topic at such times? asks the Washington Star. Does a discussion of Uncle Sam's new responsibilities lead to it? Or does the delightful imprisonment on shipboard explain it? Whatever the explanation, the fact exists, and it may result in making such trips exceedingly popular. The curiosity of congress as to our outlying possessions may come to overshadow everything else. Most of those who believe that the United States should have an overwhelming navy will indorse the theory of Admiral "Bob" Evans, that we should have battleships and fleet tactics in the Pacific, as well as in the Atlantic. "When the navy is built up to its proper proportions I believe we should have 16 battleships on the Atlantic and 16 on the Pacific," says the admiral. Then we could defy the world! Sir Robere Ball, who has arrived in New York, is professor of astronomy at Cambridge university. "America has done much in advancing the study of astronomy," he says. "It is really here in America now that all the great discoveries in astronomy are made." While in this country he will be the guest of Andrew Carnegie and will attend the dedication of the Carnegie institute, in Pittsburg. When Dr. Buckley, editor of the Christian Advocate, told the New York conference last week that some of his best suggestions for editorials came from persons shut up in asylums as lunatics, the brethren were amused. "I knew you would laugh," said Dr. Buckley, "but I want to say that some of the inmates of insane asylums are as sane as you will ever be." Spencer Eddy, secretary of the United States embassy in Berlin, is taking an active interest in polo. He has been a moving spirit in organizing a number of young men in the German capital with a view to establishing the game in one or two of the suburbs of Berlin. It is probable that at least two rival polo teams will be put into the field there this summer. Oh, yes, the Long island woman who left in her will a provision of $15 a month for the support of a scotch collie dog knew that there were poor children in the world, but when she was attacked by a robber in front of her home, about a year ago, the dog sprang at the man's throat and he ran away and she was grateful. If nobody can pass those $10,000 bills, why all this worry about the stolen $173,000? If Belgium is not careful King Leopold may get fussy and move to the Congo. A rich man out in the suburbs who owns a large place has among the many people employed to keep it in shape an Irishman of whom he is particularly fond on account of his unconscious wit, says Harper's Weekly. This Irishman is something of a hard drinker, and, as his income is limited, he is more particular as regards the quantity than the quality of his liquids. The other day the employer, who had been awaiting a good opportunity, remarked in a kind tone, as the closing sentence of a friendly lecture: "Now, Pat, how long do you think you can keep on drinking this cheap whiskey?" To which Pat instantly replied: "All my life, if it doesn't kill me." Corporations Oust Miners. The Klondike proper—that is, that portion of the Yukon territory in the vicinity of Dawson—as far as the individual miner is concerned, is on a rapid decline owing to the immense area of ground being acquired by dredging companies. One company alone has purchased nearly all the placer ground on the three principal creeks, namely: Bonanza, Eldorado and Hunker, and has bonded considerably more on Dominion and other creeks for various reasons. Where formerly hundreds of miners were working for wages or working their own ground, thus creating a demand for provisions, clothing, machinery, hardware, etc., and the transportation from Dawson to the different mining operations, now dredges are either operating or in course of construction. Consular Reports. Many a girl's idea of doing good in the world is to marry a man to reform him. AN OLD EDITOR Found $2000 Worth of Food. The editor of a paper out in Okla., said: "Yes, it is true when I got hold of Grape-Nuts food, it was worth more than a $2000 doctor bill to me, for it made me a well man. I have gained 25 pounds in weight, my strength has returned tenfold, my brain power has been given back to me, and that is an absolute essential, for I am an editor and have been for 35 years. "My pen shall always be ready to speak a good word for this powerful nutritive food. I had of course often read the advertisements regarding Grape-Nuts, but never thought to apply the food to my own use, until, in my extremity and sickness the thought came to me that it might fit my case. The statements in regard to the food are absolutely correct, as I have proven in my own case. One very fortunate thing about the food is that while it is the most scientifically made and highly nourishing, concentrated food I have ever known, it has so delicious a taste that it wins and holds friends." AFRAID OF PARALYSIS A NERVOUS SUFFERER CURED BY DR. WILLIAMS' PINK PILLS. The Medicine That Makes Rich, Red Blood and Performs Wonders as a Tonic for the Nerves. Why are nervous people invariably pale people? The answer to that question explains why a remedy that acts on the blood can cure nervous troubles. It explains why Dr. Williams' Pink Pills for Pale People are also for nervous people. It is because of the intimate relation between the red corpuscles in the blood and the health of the nerves. The nervous system receives its nourishment through the blood. Let the blood become thin, weak and colorless and the nerves are starved—the victim is started on the road that leads to nervous wreck. Nervous people are pale people—but the pallor comes first. Enrich the blood and the nerves are stimulated and toned up to do their part of the work of the body. Dr. Williams' Pink Pills make red blood and transform nervous, irritable, ailing people into strong, energetic, forceful men and women. Mrs. Harriet E. Porter, of 20 Liberty avenue, South Medford, Mass., says: "I had never been well from childhood and a few years ago I began to have dizzy spells. At such times I could not walk straight. I was afraid of paralysis and was on the verge of nervous prostration. Then neuralgia set in and affected the side of my face. The pains in my forehead were excruciating and my heart pained me so that my doctor feared neuralgia of the heart. I tried several different kinds of treatment but they did me no good. "One day my son brought me some of Dr. Williams' Pink Pills and I found that they strengthened my nerves. I took several boxes and felt better in every way. There were no more dizzy attacks, the neuralgia left me and I have been a well woman ever since." Dr. Williams' Pink Pills are invaluable in anaemia, rheumatism, after-effects of the grip and fevers and in sick headaches, nervousness, neuralgia, and even partial paralysis and locomotor ataxia. Our booklet "Nervous Disorders, a Method of Home Treatment" will be sent free on request to anyone interested. Write for it today. Worst Case Doctors Ever Saw—Suf- fered Untold Misery—Perfect Cure by Cuticura Remedies. “My son, who is now twenty-two years of age, when four months old began to have eczema on his face, spreading quite rapidly until he was nearly covered. The eczema was some- thing terrible, and the doctors said it was the worst case they ever saw. At times his whole body and face were covered, all but his feet. I used many kinds of patent medicines, to no avail. A friend teased me to try Cuticura. At last I decided to try Cuticura when my boy was three years and four months old, having had eczema all that time and suffering untold misery. I began to use all three of the Cuticura Remedies. When this life stream is flowing threugh the system in a state of urity and richness we are assured of petiect and uninterrupted health; Pacates pure blood is nature’s safe-guard against disease. When, however, the body is fed on weak, impure or polluted blood, the system is deprived of its strength, disease germs collect, and the trouble is manifested in various ways, Pustular eruptions, pimples, rashes and the diferent skin affections show that the blood is in a feverish and diseased conaicion as a result of too much acid or the presence of some irritating humor. Sores and Ulcers are the result of morbid, unhealthy matter in the blood, and Rheumatism, Ca- tarrh, Scrofula, Contagious Blood Poison, etc., are all deep-seated blood disorders that will continue to grow worse as long as the poison remains, These impurities and poisons find their way into the blood in various ways. Often a sluggish, inactive condition of the system, and torpid state of ‘the avenues of bodily waste, leaves the refuse and waste matters to sour and form uric and other acids, which are taken up by the blood and distribtited throughout the circulation, Coming in contact with contagious diseases is another cause for the poisoning of the blood ; we also breathe the germs and microbes of Malaria into our lungs, and when these get into the blood in sufficient quantity it becomes a carrier of disease instead of health. Some are so unfortunate as to inherit bad blood, perhaps the dregs of some old constitutional disease of ancestors is handed down to them and they ate constantly annoyed and troubled with it, Bad blood is the source of ait dis- ease, and until this vital fluid is cleansed and purified the body is sure to suffer in some way. For blood troubles of any character S. S. S. is the best remedy ever discovered, It goes down into the circulation and removes any and all poisons, supplies the healthful properties it needs, and completely and permanently cures blood diseases of every kind. The action of S. S. S.. is so thorough that hereditary taints are removed and weak, diseased blood made strong and | @ @ @ healthy so that disease cannot remain. It cures Rheumatism, Catarrh, Scrofula, Sores | PURELY VEGETABLE @"d Ulcers, Skin Diseases, Contagious Blood Poison, etc., and does not leave the slightest trace of the trouble for future outbreaks. The whole volume of blood is renewed and cleansed after a course of S.S,S, It is also nature's greatest tonic, made entirely of roots, herbs and barks, and is absolutely harmless to any part of the system. §.§.§. is for sale at all first class drug stores, Book on the blood and any medical advice free to all who write. AROUND THE HOUSE Opps AND ENDS OF INFORMATION FOR THE HOUSEKEEPER, How to elidh thd Phases and Other Brasses Easily—Repairing the Favorite Rocker Seat— Other Things. eee See Ce eee) ee ee but if one will save the water in which the beans are parboiled before putting into the bean pot to be baked, and wash the brasses thoroughly with this, then rub them dry with a soft cloth, it will take but a few moments’ labor to have them all bright and shin- ing, and the hands will have been cleansed also, instead of becoming grimy with some sort of powder. ' Many sewing or small rocking chairs are so comfortable that one feels a pang at parting with them when the cane seats are broken through, and there is no place where they can con- vertently be sent for repair. When the reseating is attempted at home, the result is often a failure, for the newly constructed seat is too apt to sag or hump. ‘This can be easily pre- vented by cutting strips of burlap about two inches wide and tacking them firmly in place. The strips should be interwoven so as to resemble a checker board. Over such a founda- tion and upholstering can be neatly fastened. Kitchen aprons wear out a few inches below the belt, especially if one works much about a sink which has ‘a sharp edge, as soapstone and iron sinks too often do. It is an excellent plan to make the apron long and with & deep hem, then when it becomes worn it can be quickly ripped out of the belt, the hem let down and the bottom of it gathered and sewn into the belt and then after the worn part has been cut off what is now the bot- tom of the apron can be hemmed. This does not take aslong as to make a new apron, and it does make one piece of goods do the work of two. A woman noted for her labor saving inventions says that she never winds bobbins for her sewing machine. She simply places the bobbin in the shut- tle after putting the end of the thread through the eye, puts the shuttle in the machine and the spool in one of the drawers of ‘the machine, and thus winds her bobbin as she stitches. Many lace waists which have been made up over a thin china silk often become too small for wear after they have been cleansed or washed several times. It is not quite practical to cut the front open and insert a fancy vest in a blousing waist, although it can be done with excellent results in a tight fitting corsage. Usually the net or lace can be pulled back to nearly its original proportions and the trouble is with the silk alone. This may be remedied by inserting a piece of silk each side of the front in the Mining. This is covered by making a deep collar of batiste, which is one of the fashionable accessories of the mo- ment, and covering the inserted pieces by the adjustment of the collar, The deep collar should be removable, and can be worn with other waists. It may be embroidered or simply edged with lace. There are many households where fresh fish is not available more than once or twice a week, where the fam- ily are fond of chowder, Salt fish can be freshened so as to be usable for this purpose, but canned salmon is much more to be desiréd, and once the cook has used it she will wonder why she never thought of it before, Make the chowder in the usual way. An oiled floor is much harder to care for than a polished floor from the fact that a drop of grease from the frying pan makes an ugly looking spot which seems very hard to get out. On such a spot just put a little baking soda, let it remain a short time to ab- sorb the grease, then wash in hot water. Farming land in the entire state, com- mencing about 36 miles south of San Antonio and about two miles south of Pleasanton (the county seat of Atas- cosa County), and extending through Atascosa and a part of McMullen Counties, to within 17 miles of my 60,000-acre Live Oak County Ranch, which I in four months last year, sold to 4,000 Home Seekers, on liberal terms, without interest on deferred payments, which gives the poor man, from his savings, a chance to secure a good farm and town lot for his home in town. I will donate and turn over to three bonded Trustees, $250,000 from the proceeds of the sale of this property to tne purchasers, as a bonus to the first railroad built through this property on the line which I shall designate. ‘This property is located on that mid- dle plain between East Texas, where it rains too much, and the arid section of West Texas, where it does not rain enough. Its close proximity to San Antonio, the largest city in the State, with a claimed population of over 100,000, en- hances its value as a market for Agri- cultural and Truck farm products far beyond the value of similar land not so favorably located. Topography. Level to slightly rolling? Large, broad, rich valleys, encircled by ele- vations suitable for homes; 90 per cent. fine farming land, balance pas- ture land. Forestry. Ash, Elm, Gum, Hackberry, Live Oak, Mesquite, Pecan, abundant for shade, fencing and wood, Soil. About 60 per cent. rich, dark, sandy loam, balance chocolate or red sandy loam, usually preferred by local farm- ers, and each with soil averaging from 2 to 4 feet deep, with clay subsoil, which holds water, Climate. Mild, balmy, healthy, practically free from malaria, few frosts, no snow, no hard freezes; continuous sea breeze moderates extremes of heat and cold, producing warm winters and cool sum- mers. Average temperature about 62 degrees, Rainfall. From the Government record, it {s safe to assume that the rainfall on this property has been fully 35 inches per year, which is more than some of the old States have had, and is plentiful for ordinary crops properly cultivated, and for Grass Growing. Improvements and Water. This property is fenced and cross- fenced in many large and small pas- tures, with four: barbed wires, with posts about 12 feet apart. Also a humber of fine shallow wells, Also a number of fine Lakes and Tanks. Also, a number of fine flowing Arte- sian Wells, whose crystal streams flow for miles and miles down those creeks, whose broad, rich valleys, irrigable from those continuously flowing streams, make it the ideal place for the Marketing Gardener who desires to raise from two to three crops of marketable produce on the same ground every year, Farming and Truck Farming, Seasons never end. He says: “T am one of the heaviest taxpayers on farm lands in Mason and Tazewell Counties, Ilinois, and I have been ta- miliar with the conditions around San Antonio for 12 years.
