To the Baptist Brotherhood of the State of Oklahoma: State of Oklahoma: The thirty-fifth session of the National Baptist Convention, which convened a few weeks ago in the city of Chicago, has passed into history. This session of the convention was quite a stormy one. Dr. Boyd leading his forces with the Rev. E. P. Jones at he head, finally pulled off with a few of the delegates and some of the citizens of Chicago and organized a "Rump Convention." Oklahoma stood pat with the National Convention of the good D. mp vs. J. A. Anderson, S. P. Vaughan, President of the Creek Baptist S. S. Con- tion, and probably Rev. Stephenson, Moderator of the Creek-Seminole Association. This split in the National Convention means a split in the various states, for those who are for the National Baptist Convention will not stand to be dragged into the "Rump Convention," notwithstanding our President collected money from the brethren on the way to Chicago for the purpose of representing the State in the National Convention, but put our money in that "Rump Convention." Some mean to rule or ruin and will not be advised by any one. I am sure Oklahoma is not for the split, but I am writing this to inform the Baptists of the state that they may be on their guard that no man can pull the wool over your eyes and fool you at the State Convention with a fine flowery speech or address, and make you believe that the "Rump Convention" is the National Convention. To prove to you that it is not the convention, Dr. Boyd went into the District Court and swore out an injunction against Dr. Morris that he be not allowed to preside or in any way have to do with the Convention. This was served on Dr. Morris while he was reading his Annual Address. He had read it about half when the sheriff stopped him and served the notice. To the court house they went, and when the Judge heard the evidence he pronounced Dr. Morris the rightful presiding office of the National Baptist Convention. Then off went Dr. Boyd and the new others, and our "little" President "S. S. Jones" trotted off after em. Some one may sa that we are fighting, but we are just merely telling the plain, si truth. Every word of this article prove by the Oklahoma Dr. M imnously elected President of the Conveition; and after that "wrangling set" got out, peace and harmony permeated the Convention. Rev. E. P. Jones of Mississippi, and Sam Prince of Texas, were helped down from the platform upon the toe of someone's shoe, it is said. I do not know how they got down, but they came off the platform in an unusual way; they were not particular to return. Will the Baptists of Oklahoma stand together, or will you split yourselves asunder? You have been reading the papers, and I am sure you are acquainted with conditions. We must save the Publishing House for the Baptists; and unless you stay with the National Baptist Convention, you can not save it. The Baptists do not own very much there as I understand it, for everything belongs to Dr. Boyd; but the little we do own we cannot control that. We are merely trying to get in control of our property if we have any. And if we have none, we want to know it so No. 24 we can begin to arrange to purchase and own some. I doubt very much that we will own any of that that is said to be ours, for I think that the Convention has slept almost too long. But, if it can be gotten for the Baptists Oklahoma is here to do her part in helping to secure it; and no one need think that, because Rev. S. S. Jones. President of the State Convection, joined the "Rump Convention" that he has represented the sentiment of the Baptists of this state. He only had the advantage because the brethren trusted him with the money and he of his own accord placed it in that "Rump Convention. Men may mis-use the people's money for a while but will not fool them all the time and mis-use their means. I can see the handwriting on the wall for some men now. And I can see some great ruler whose power has reached out and covered some portion of the earth, trembling in his knees and his eyes are rolling in every direction. He has sent out for his wise men to come and interpret. But your men will fool you. God yet lives in Zion and He will have you interpret the handwriting at the proper time. A hint to the wise is sufficient. Let every church in the state that is interested in the denomination work as a unit, meet us in Okmulgee Wednesday before the 4th Lord's Day in October, 1915. Come praying; come to do the will of our Heavenly Father. President State Sunday School Convention. P. S.—Mr. Editor, this article must be published and Oklahoma Baptists must know the truth. There is an effort being made to hide these facts from the people. If anyone has any reasons why Oklahoma should follow the "Rump Convention" let them tell it. I know that you will be fair to let all speak. The issue must not be dodged. Oklahoma is either for or against wheih—the "National" or "Rump Convention."
