Ashurst Will Be Speaker at Greenway Field Day U. S. Senator Henry F. Ashurst, known throughout the country as the “silver tongued orator of the U. S. Senate,” will deliver the address of the day at the gigantic Greenway Field Day program to be staged here on April 23, according to a recent announcement made by Mrs. J. B. Girand, chairman of the D. A. R. com- mittee. Senator Ashurst’s speech, as well as the results of the 75 or more athletic contests, will probably be heard in every section of the southwest. Ar- rangements are now being made for a remote control radio hook-up thru the courtesy of the Mountain States Telephone company and a Phoenix radio station. Greenway Field Day officials were elated over the news that Senator Ashurst had accepted the invitation to deliver the official address of the day. This will be one of the very few addresses, if not the only one, to be delivered by the senator on his western trip, it was stated. Grandstand patrons at the big edu- cational and sports meet will hear ev- ery word of the gifted orator’s speech as the officials have contracted for the installation of the Public Address System. This device, installed by Earl Nielsen, consists of six huge electrically operated amplifiers, which will be placed in the grandstand. It is also announced that at least five bands would play during the big program which starts at ten o’clock and winds up at five o'click. Bands already secured inchide the 158th In- fantry, Indian School, Phoenix Union High School and the Boy Scout Band. Negotiations are now on with the Mesa school ‘band and the St. John’s Indian school band. Fifteen hundred seats and sixty boxes have already been sold. Box seats nave been presented to conva- lescent ex-service men in the valley for this great sports program, memorial to their comrade the late General John C. Greenway. Phoenix Woman Buys 5,000 Shares Stock in Tornado Gold Mining Co. To Mrs. Fannie Mae Hamilton of 909 Seventh street. Phoenix, falls the honor of holding the first stock of the Tornado Gold Mining company. Call- ing at the company’s office, 405 Ellis building, at 8 o’clock on the morning of the opening day of the stock sale, Mrs. Hamilton was first in line, and at 9 o’clock headed the stock sub- scription list with a purchase of five thousand shares. Mrs. Hamilton is a native of Ari- zona, being the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Fiske, pioneer residents of Gila county. Reared in the atmos- phere of early-day mining activities, when the making of fortunes was of more frequent occurrence, Mrs. Ham- ilton is an enthusiastic believer in the future of Tornado. It was in this same district that her brother, James od, former assayer of the Old Dominion Copper company of Globe, located two claims, but he died before having an opportunity to develop the property. “T have supreme faith in Tornado as a high-class investment,” said Mrs. Hamilton in a press interview. “If successful, it will be the means of com- pleting the education of my daughters, one of whom is attending the State University at Tucson, the other being a student of the Phoenix Union High School.” Mrs. Hamilton recalled how her mother, Mrs. C. R. Fiske, held for 30 years the stock of a certain Globe mining property which eventually sold for $85,000. Unfortunately, the mother did not live to see the fruits of her investment. She died eleven days before the deal was consumated, but her children reaped the benefits of her foresightedness when the estate was disrtibuted to the heirs. SMITH, MANAGING EDITOR Advertising Rates on Application Subscription, per year.....$2.50 17 N. 2nd St. Phone 7392 Our Tenth Anniversary With this issue the Tribune enters its tenth year of continuous publication in Phoenix. We have weathered the storm, left the siding and are now on the main line. To our many subscribers and liberal advertisers, we owe our success. In the beginning, we started out to make the Tribune a clean, conservative and reliable journal, and during all these years, we have not deviated one iota from this policy. In the future as in the past, the Tribune will be kept clean and free from objectionable matter of any kind. You may permit the children to read the Tribune with safety for we will print nothing that will in any way offend. The Tribune is the people's paper, and we shall continue to conduct it in a manner pleasing to the general public, and not in some cut and dired way that we think the people ought to have it. Beginning with this issue we shall continue to give you more and more of the local news. Phoenix is a city of 60,000 inhabitants, 5000 of whom are colored, and we feel that events of importance among this group should take precedence over any other. If your subscription delinquent, renew at once so that you will not miss a single issue of this intensely intersting journal. Better get in this month while the subscription price is only One Dollar for a full year. We thank our subscribers and advertisers for their generous support in the past, and ask a continuation of the same. With your support we can do anything, and if you want a real newsy journal, let us number you among our paid up subscribers. Something really sensational coming up in the next issue; don't miss it. All delinquent subscribers will be dropped after this number has been delivered. It is now up to you. We thank you.
