The race among the democrats for presecuing attorney is getting warm as there already announced. Carb-stone politician has began their work, one says that he has become so powerful that he now has every candidates are running after him now, estead of him running after them as heretofore Judge Ringen of Smithton, is said to be candidate for Preaiding Judge, no better man can be found for this place than the honorable Judge Ringin Officer C W Leftwich one of the best policemen now on the force have announce himself for constable. He is favorably known among the classes of colored people and the indication are that he would make a strong fight if nominated by his party Lawyer Shortridge is now a decided candidate for City Attorney, whether a citizen ticket or not, it makes no different, Mr Shortridge has a large number of colored friends who are and ready to help him into this office, if they are given the right of a "free ballot" If the citizens ticket will agree to give the Negro voters, one alderman, two policemen, regular men on the street, assistance City physician and janitor, then we could say to the masses of colored people, "support it." But will they do this! sir, We have been informed the honorable Louis Hoffman one of the foremost and prominent lawyers of the state, is being urged to become a candidate for Judge of Sepreme Court, Mr Hoffman has thousands of friends among, both black and white all over the State and among democrats as well, who would feel awful proud of an opportunity to vote for him for this important place. The socialist has already put their ticket in the field, it is as follows: For Mavor—E T Behrens For Chief of Police—O Linsey For Collector—John O Fisher For Police Judge—Rufas Money For Assessor—W S Embry For Treasurer—Chas Hartenbach 1st Ward Alderman—F Leuki g 2nd Ward Alderman—J T Parish 3rd Ward Alderman—J L Cone 4th Ward Alderman—J W Neely success us Constable during the ials are urging him for Sheriff this re-election of Constable. The is that we need good Sunday schools in all of our churches, they not [only help the churches, but they cultivates the child mind and helps to make respectable young men and women. So we urge upon the christian rathers and mothers to get enterested in out Sunday school work, help the leaders to push it, send your children every Sunday, either in the morning or afternoon, and when our children see that their parents are enterested in that work, they will also be anious and Sunday school's of our city will be a great success. Our mothers, fatuera and guardians must take more interest in the Sunday school work of our city more. With the membership that there are in our three largest churches, we should be able to have good attendance in each one of their Sunday schools. During our visit last Sunday at the Taylor chapel and Quinn chapel, we note a few thoughts The Taylor chapel with a membership of over 250 members should have a Sunday school of about the same every Sunday morning, but the attendance is far this; out of this large congregation the attendance last Sunday was only about 60 in all. The pastor, superintendent and teachers seems to be doing air they can for the success of their school, and they cannot be the blame of such small attendance. The fault is in the parents and the members of the church. they must get interested in this work and make their child or children attend the Sunday school every Sunday as he do the public during the week. JOSEPH KEHL NEW MEAT MARKET Stall No. 5, Market House During the afternoon we visited the Quinn chapel Sunday school, there the attendance were about 94 in all, ranging from about 7 to 60 years of age. The time has come when the young Negro voter must look for something else excepting becz Cocaine and morphine only in crassse the Negro's yrapensity to lie and steal. It makes him easy however for the police to catch The pawn shop evil is fast growing in popularity among the Negroes. A five dollar coat will fetch seventy-five cents with twenty-five cents per week dues The poor white man often wonders why Negroes go better dressed on Sundays than he. We will tell you if you keep the secret. Just wait till a rich man gets tired of his suit. There is one thing that the colored Law and Order League can do, and that is to see that none of their members be guilty of selling their votes You agree with us when we say that the republican party under the leadership of such men as mayor Babcock, Alderman Brown Parks, Hammonds and our city Counselor C C Kelly has did wonderful work for the city citing the past year or two, don't you Now since this true, why do they want to put in a half and half concern and thus give the democratic party credit for what the republican party are entitled to? How dear to our hearts is the steady subscriber who pays in advance at the birth of each year; who lays down his money and lays down gladly and casts round the office a halo of cheer. He never says "stop it," "I can't afford ii," or "I'm getting more papers than I can read, but says "send it—the family likes it. How welcome he is when he steys in the sanctum, how he makes our heart throb, how he makes our feet dance; we thank him and bless him—the study subscriber who pays in advance—Ex Are the Sedalia colored people measuring up to their opportunities for cultivating race pride and development? This is a question that should concern us all as a district race of people. Are we making places of employment for the army of boys and girls that is coming on with ceaseless tread? Our boys and girls of today will be the men and women of to-mor-raw. As farthers and mothers are we doing all that is in our power to give them the proper trining? Let us support business enterprises conducted by members of the rce and teach our children the importance of such among us. Let us lend our brother a helping hand in whatever honorable calling he may be engaged and thereby build up a community of which we may all feel proud off. We notice that the democratic city committee has called on the republican city committee and has both agreed to petition the two great parties for the purpose of putting in a mixed this spring. This proposition has been made before, but not as much approval as it has at this stage. It is now claimed by a few of our leaders that in this way, is the only hope in which to fictitious good men into our offices. To admit this, is to admit that no man however good pure and capable he maybe, can succeed in an election conducted under the laws of the State, and it is also to admit that the laws however strict they may be, are not stric enough to control an election in Sedalia. It also admit and claim to the world that Sedalia has people which is worst and more lawless class of voters than any other city in the State, for elections are held along party lines in all other cities, and in them good officers has been chosen. We believe and positively say that the citizens of Sedalia are of the best in the county, intelligent and business like, and are always awake to the interest and needs of the city. THE TIMES points with pride to our late Mayor Crawford, our present Mayor Babcock, Edward Andler, our city treaurer, Judge Truxel all whom the majority of the people elected two years ago on party ticket, the honored them and put them power and proud of their work to lay, and yet these men as well as Marshal Love, Aldermen Hammonds and Brown, were all elected by a party vote. That has been done can and will be done again with such good men as our party candidates. Every cetzen in Sedalia has right to a vote in selecting candidates. It is important and a right that you vote. We are taught by the laws of our country, and by our greatest Statemen of today, that in the ballot is the safety of the people, without it—that which our fathers fought, bleed and died for is lost. If votes are bought and sold, and believe they are to a certain extent, then prosecute the guilty ones to the fullest extent. Is claimed that a great many colored people sell their votes, we will help in getting such evidence to prosecute such guilty persons, but at the same time we do ask and insist that the white brothur be prosecuted for buying the votes, for they cannot sell them with out buyer. We say purity the ballot and us and honest vote and a chance to vote, this cannot be done by taking away from the people the right to select their candidates by votes, which is the only thing the poor exclusive control. If this plea is adopted who knows what the result will be this fall, it will to certain extent disorganize the party organization and create great dissatisfaction in both parties. Are there any safety in this new fangled way? If there is we can't see it. Let us stand by the old and legal way, and come out to our primaries or conventions and nominate the above named men with other good men for the remaining places and then go to the poles on the first Tuesday in April and there elect them. And by so doing you will find many a man with an honest hand covered with a dark kin, ready to do their whole duty in carring an honest, purb and clean party election, The nearer the campaign comes the more can be heard talked off it, but during all of this time we never near any one saying what they are going to do for the Negro support. We notice the papers and business men are urging a citizens ticket, demoerats, republicans and socialists are all up in arms seeking offices upon the votes of all the people regardless of his color or wealth, none of them any part of the pie to help them carry their points. So the case now depends on the Negro's efforts as to what part of the pie they (as a race) will get out of the coming campaign. Just look at the appointed offices that their is to be filled: there are policemen street-workers, jnitor, firemen, clerks etc. and just think out of the intire list the Negro who had the balancing power, has only two places, one policeman and janitor. We do not intend to say that it is altogether the fault of the whites, but it is largely the Negro voters own fault. Instead of the Negro voters consolidating all of the ir forces, each one looking towards the betterment and advancement of race, and then place themselves in a position so that they can be depended upon, then cast their support in a way that some member of our race can enjoy the benifit of some of the pie issued out by means of appointments. Some of them will choose themselves up some quiet room and then put out a shingie saying "votes for sale" and then put the in office who pays them the highest price, something like 50c or one dollar ahead, while another lot will chase a candidate all day long and half the night to get a keg of beer and of cigars to a certain gang to influence their votes, then another grrfter will go to each candidate saying that he himself controls so many Negro votes and will vote them for a certain sum of money; Then just after election and the men are elected and appointments have all been made and the Negro has no appointments to amount to anything, then we can here the condeming the party on every hand when he himself was the cause, Now my friend you say that we intitled to more of the pie from our party. Yes we agree with you, but we must put a stop to this buying and selling our votes and support the persens that will support the Negro after the election and those who are willing to give him some chance at the 'pie' With such Negro vote as Sedalia and Pettis county has, we shall have clerks in one half of offices in our court house, but we can never hope even the janitorship so long as we are so divided, bought and sold by the influence of liquor and money. So now as the battle is about start, Let us all get together, not to sell them selves nor to drink "booz" but to do something that will give more employment to Negro in our city nd county affairs. During the past twenty years a certain conscientious class of moneyed white people have been in the habit of loading money to Negroes on their property. These loans often went to save the home, either from an old mortgage or to save forfeitures on last payments on purchase money. Time went on and the Negro either paid his principal or interest when due. Now a radical change has taken place, a new set of colored lawyers have struck the town, and they are making the Negroes believe that or a reasonable fee they can defeat most any kind of debt. But now the white people who have the money are becoming disgusted, and the results will be that all encumbered Negro property will soon sink its level into the white man's hands.—Tenn. Every day there are people walking around the streets with money sticking out of their pockets. They are actually looking around for some place to spend it. $ The man who reaches out with his advertisements and pulls them into his store is the one who is going to get the money. His less aggressive brethren will get what he leaves. Some of them may get left entirely. Don't be afraid of using plenty of space, and don't be afraid to advertise special articles. "There are people walking around the streets with money sticking out of their pockets." "There are people walking around the streets with money sticking out of their pockets." Take plenty of A room to tell your story, and describe the goods, just as you would to a customer on the other side of the counter. Don't look too closely at the amount of space that the ad is going to occupy. Don't think so much about what the advertisement is going to cost and think more about what it is going to do. A ten-dollar ad that is effective is less expensive than a one-dollar ad that is not. "Don't think so much about what the advertisement is going to cost. Think more about what it is going to do." BEST because it is pure and safe being made entirely of harmless ingredients, DEST because it is non-irritating and never grips or causes pain or irritation. BEST because it is sure and never fails. BEST because "Children like it and ask for it." BEST because its tonic properties are so good and so strengthening that it keeps the little ones in fine, hearty condition. It is a dangerous thing to give little babies violent cathartics that rack and rend their little bodies. DON'T DO IT—give them LAXAKOLA. For constipation, coated tongue, simple colds, restlessness, loss of sleep and fever it is invaluable. A few drops can be given with safety to very young babies, and it will often relieve colic by expelling the wind and gas that it will. it aid digestion, relieve restlessness, assist nature and induce sleep. Great relief is experienced when administered to young children suffering from diarrhea, accompanied with white or green evacuations, as LAXAKOLA neutralizes the acidity of the bowels and carries out the cause of the fermentation. "My baby is 4 months old and is teething. He was sick and I tried a good many things, but nothing seemed to relieve him. I had a doctor, who said it was inflammation of the bowels, and that I would never pull him through peanut brittle on his blear skin. When I saw he was waking eerie, I copied giving him his medicine, as he could keep him awake and be well treated with only very mild and not severe medicine. I knew what it was to close my eyes day or night. I gave him a few drops of LAXAKOLA and it relieved him. I gave it to him a few times, and it worked like a charm and he no, he not, rests pretty fair all night. He is a great deal better than I was when I gave him LAXAKOLA, and I think if I were not given anything else to their sick babies." MRS. MARY DALEY, 297 First Street, South Boston, Mass. Laxakola for Young Girls on the threshold of womanhood, has been found invaluable. When they become pale and languid, face bloodless, eyes dull, head aching, feet and hands cold, appetite gone or abnormal, and their systems generally run down, they need building up, and their blood needs cleansing. Give them LAXAKOLA; its gentle bowel action to cleanse, and its tonic properties to build up the system, will show immediate and most beneficial results. It acts promptly, surely but gently on the bowels, and while stimulating the liver to increased activity, its tonic properties strengthen the nerves, renew vitality and restore color to the face and life and animation to the whole system. April 20, "Enclosed is 50c, more bottle LAXAKOLA. It has done me much good."
