He is a common evers day man and one who has proven himself to be friend to the colored people The Socialist proposes to use the government in behalf of the trades Union. They want the Negroes to help them into power and at the same time invite him to stay out of their Labor organizations. What think ye of this? 'Equality"eh—! Stamps accepted. The question now is, will the citizens movement be more beneficial to the Negroes of our city during the next two years than the party movements has been in tee past four years? Well it wont hurt try them once and see. El. where in the columns of this paper, will be found the announcement card of Mr Mathew Meyers. who is a republican candidate for the nomination of Constable o Sedalia Township, subject to the republican convention Mr Meyers is well known to the people of our city, but is one who has spent many years among us as a party worker, business man and an honorable citizen. He was a candidate two years ago for city Assessor and was elected by a good majority, but by unfairness he was robbered of the office, Should he be given this nomination his electron is assure, and the republican banner will continue to wave over the Constable's in Sedalia Township. During the past few weeks the people have worked up over the citizens ticket many of them opposed, while there were a large who were in favor of it. So the the committees issued the call for the ward caucuses to elect the delagates and the said delagates should meet in convention and there confirm or reject the proper sitlon and nominate a ticket. But when these caucuses was called to orer by the different ward committeemen, then and there was the time for the opposing factions to fight the movement down, but enstead of them being hand ready to battle they stayed at home to await the results, and citizen's or fusion movement was carried without a rub. But those stayed at home are now making the hollow. We were among the tighters, but like all other party fighters we are perfectly satisfied when the majority rules as did in this instance. The ticket as has been named is made up with some of our our best citizens and business men, men who have been tried and have given perfect satisfaction in every respect, and good men is what the people wan to run our city, could not have got a better ticket then the present republican-democrat ticket. We cannot see nor can we understand where and how Negroes of our proud city can benifit themselves by turning down our best citizens and supporting the U S or the J-D-P. We have learnt of Socialistism and what they are doing for and against the Negroes in the industrail world. We have ried Democratic and the republican city administration time and again, and the Negro has never reaped any benifits in the way of improvement side-walks, crossings of streets, as he got was a liberal promise and one policeman and a janitor. But now since the city government has been taken out of politics and put into lands of those who's interest is for the up-building of the city, the Negro chances are more favorable, for persons who will be appointed to the different places will or should appointed on his merits and ability fill such place and on any political or money influence, and we believe to that improvements will be made in all parts of city regard less color, wealth or political influences. And if the citizen ticket will live up to what they say, the political wire-pullers, money inflicment or color will have any bearing in the next city appointment, but only qualified and competent men considered So we say to the colored voters that you will no mistake in trying the new scheme of citizenism, dont stay at home on election day, for there a duty you must proform if you want your race to be properly cared for in the issuing of the city pie. We cannot get any thing from the Socialist party and the Jeffersonian democrats has nothing for you. Now will you act wisely and stop your groubling and fighting and within yourself or by your actions, if the citizen's ticket will help better our town, financially, bring more business' purify the city, reduced the city debt, reduce the city taxes, make more improvements on all city properity, give more employment to the laboring men of our city, then you can arrive some benifit, And it will you duty help support it at the poils April next. At last Uncle Sam has made some efforts to investigate the disfranchisement laws in the southern States, a committee has been appointed National authorities to look after this matter and the are that a Negro's face can again be seen in the House of Congress are the ignorant southern white man must suffer the same kind of disfranchisement as the southern Negro JOSEPH KEHL, NEW MEAT MARKET Stall No. 5, Market House I have opened a new Meat Market at stall 5 with all good and fresh home killed meats, and are selling them at the lowest strictly cash prices The best Beef of all kinds, the best Pork, Mutton, Viel. Warner's Safe Cure Co. from 406 Pennsylvania Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pa., as follows: "The past summer while completing manuscripts for d. burg, being somewhat overworked, coupled with the intense heat, my nervous system became seriously affected, causing restless nights and loss of appetite. At this critical juncture our bottles of Warner's Safe Cure, taken conscientiously, completely restored me to health, and I feel it due you to thus express gratification and thanks. Do you advertise (God save the mark!) on the backs of restaurant bills of fare? Do you put a card in the book "for the benefit of the Fire Department?" Do you THE ONLY ONE LEFT "Do you take a space-'the only one left-' in a thousand and one schemes that come around every year?" business transaction. The funny part of it is that it is generally given less attention than any other department of a business. The contract once made, and the space decided upon, the average advertiser's The contract once made, and the space decided interest seems to die. Even a neglected ad in a good paper will do some good, in spite of the advertiser's apathy. A good advertisement will always bring profitable returns, if placed in a paper whose price for space is based on an honest circulation statement. And if I were an advertiser I would not use a paper that refused to prove its circulation. Circulation is what he is buying and he has the right to know the quantity. And bare assertion isn't proof—not by several thousands, sometimes. About five years ago my right ear began to sing and this kept on getting worse, until I lost About five years ago my right ear began to sing, and this kept on getting worse, until I lost my hearing in this ear entirely I underwent a treatment for catarrh, for three months, without any success, consulted a number of physicians, among others, the most eminent ear specialist of this city, who told me that they could help me, even that only temporarily, that the head noises would then cease, but the irritation effect continued. I then saw your advertisement accidently in a New York paper, and ordered your treatment. After I had used it only a few days according to your directions, the noises ceased, and to-day, after five weeks, my hearing in the diseased ear has been entirely restored. Evans Building, subscribe to the "Industrial Progress" book and have your picture in it as a prominent business man? Does the "Society" programme catch you? Are you susceptible to the blandishments of the gentleman who puts beautiful charts in all the railway stations? Do you take "a space—the only one left," in a thousand and one schemes that come around every year? Do you suppose you ever got a cent's worth of benefit out of any $10 you ever spent that way? If all the dollars that are diverted from the newspapers into these and similar channels were used in buying space in the best paper in town there would be fewer merchants who say that advertising is a doubtful undertaking.
