INTER-STATE Journal Kans..and Missouri. Bv F L SPLTZ. EDITORIAL Go thy way you will soon forget. We need no liars in our business Justice is a 'darn' poor thing to expect. A grand jury of the right stripe may be of great service to the public Old dad we don't know is still 'bellyaching'. A man who thinks he is bigger than the law always has to set "en up." What shall we do with some people who have axes to grind(?) Mrs Botkin has been sent up for life a second time for sending poison candy to Mrs Dunning through the mail. Ed Howe of the "Globe" is an infidder they say because he makes his subject out of the feminine class. A girl eleven years is trying to get id of an old sinner in Iowa because her mother was not only shady in her character but a very incapable lady to a daughter. We don't need your love put your love where it will do the most good. There are a certain class of damnable rascals who think they are the whole show but they are not. Judging from what we have learned the board of education will stand by Davidson's recomendations. Ballie Wagner has told an Atchison barber if he would take up the study of medicine he would give him fifty dollars to start with, "poor of Wagner he is a damnable 'humbug.' The chief of police and C. V. Wolt are up against the real "thing" Mr. John Newlin one of the prominent real estate dealers and businessmen wants the nomination for county Treasure, Mr. Newlin stands an excellent show this time as he came near receiving the nomination four years ago, he has many friends in Douglas county who would be pleased to note his success. What has Burton done(?) our answer is no more than hundreds of others who have fought lives battles and won, While he poor fellow lost, 'alias' poor 'Yorick' we shall see. No use in blitting the cherry blossoms are blossoming in the south, The devil so the preacher says is a small matter but we fellows who do not belong to the church thinks the devil is hell. Prof L. D. Whittemore has been chosen superintendent of the city schools. We don't suppose he will go in with any prejudice but stand by. Negroes the same as his very honorable predecessor. The Herald seems to have fallen from grace from the tone of its article regarding the Wolt and McCulm muddle while it has supported these fellows all along from its recent tone its between the "devil" and the deep sea." Mr. J. R. Woodard an old resident of this county is also out for the office of sheriff. Mr. Woodard has followed farming and is regarded as one of the prosperous ones of his county he is an old time worker for the party and if he gets there he will make a good officer. We don't propose to interiete with other, folks" business but we think a grand jury will certainly find a true bill against some one. Some liar told the people that we were nothing. The same d-m resalis afraid to say it. To our face if he we would put him in jail we dare him to get smart. We want to see every dirty rascal pay the penalty of law to which he or she is subjected. G. W. Harts pastor of the B. S. Baptist church was up this week and made a pleasant call. He will start his paper a religious organ soon. If justice would claim its own not much would it own. The State Ledger. DANIEL MARKEN, FOR SHERIFF. Daniel Marken an old resident of Elmont is a candidate for Sheriff of Shawnee county. He is running on the democratic ticket but Mr. Marken wants it understood that his record is clear and that it elected he will make a good sheriff he will get a big vote this fall There are a lot of low down scoundrels who do not deserve any consideration one way or other. Turn the rascals out is what we want to a e D-m "en" the scoundrels should have gone before: The people will please take notice that our time for giving the news will soon be here. J' A, McNees is a candidate to county commissioner of the 2nd district, Mr McNees is an old resident of Douglas county and lives at: Sibley also is station agent. He stands well and his money friends white and co- ored will stand by hm in the fight. Miss Victoria Miller of Lawrence Kans was in the city a few days last week. RevA. M. Ward of Kansas City Kans spent Monday in the city. We are troubled in our mind be cause of the loss we had in rotten Worth it chief Taylor had let his detective go ahead warden Jewett would have had another boarder. Old man Games of Lawrence present county Treasur dies mighty hard he has had the office four years and now he wants it for his son. There is a statute barring such a course, and hence John Newim should get a bite at the counter this time. Remember its the empty w on with out doubt that makes the noise you can bank on that. W, M. Waters 504 Kas. Ave. ladies and gents clothes cleaned preseed and repaired Atchison Kans. The many friends of Dr. W.H. Harrison will kindly remember that he has moved to 324 Kes. Ave. un stairs where he will be pleased to see all his patients. Don't tread on us is our motto the devil that toldsome one we were oum is a d-m liar in fact we are greater than they thats why they lie. Rev, J, F, C, Taylor preached a fine sermon last Sunday at St John's. The Asbury M. E. Church N. Topeka has received a check for $400 to cicar the mortgage on said church. Rev Smith the enter- prising Pastor is in charge. The United States court has to make an example of some one and for that reason we want to say that Burton has been an example for a large number grand rascals State Notes Our readers of Altavista, White City and nearby burgs should be a little patient: a mistake was made in our last publication hence the papers did not reach them all. Mr. C. I. McGregor, one of the most capable young men of (Olivet) Osage County has a fine store at that place and at least several hundred acres of land. He came to Kansas a boy in poor condition. There are some fine people at Lebo, in Coffey county worth men tion. Mr. Burns the undertaker and a score or more prominent business men are alrigh. Mr. J W Ingels and wife are partners in undertaking at Melvern and are quite successful. Those who are slighted in this issue don't get uneasy your time will come. Doug/ass County News M B. SEGUINE Short loans 413 kana The indiana conference of the African Methodist church has passed a strong set of resolution in reference to the race problem. They condemn yellow journalism for its attempt to encourage race hatred and to magnify the defects of the negro even to the extent of falsehood to incite riot and bloodshed. They declare mob violence, riot and lynchings to be the work of unreasonable fanatics, savages and anarchists and murderers. The attitude of Presidedt Roosevelt and Gover-Durbia of Indiana in their stand against this evil is high commended. A newly married Ozark county (Mo.) couple, who recieved among other things pretty little piece of crockery as a present, use it as a sugar powl two weeks before they found out it was a sd Whether it blows or whether it snows, the season comes and the season goes, the crops get sick and the farmers blue the store keepers kick and the lawyers u the prebabies preacan and the sinners sin, and cares beet the souls of men. But through it all the printer prints, he saves and saves and stints and stints; the winds may rave and the floods may roll and drouths break through from pole to pole; but the printer man he prints and prints, saves and saves and stints and stints-happy happy printer man: he does the very best he can-sticking type or twisting press, he trusts to luck and does his best. Most persons know that the eccentric evangelist, Sam Jones, was a hard cuss before he was converted, which did not occur until after he was manified. He was once lecturing the "boys" with his characteristic freedom and vigor as follows; "Oh; I've bden all all along there; boys, I know all about it, and I used to go to balls and dances, too boys, but when I wanted to get married when I wanted to settle down with a good wife I quit drinking an gamble and I didn't go to a ball room to find my wife but I went to a praye meeting and got one. He told this in Texas and when he returned to his boarding house the land lady who had heard his remarks said: I don't blame you Brother Jones but poor Sister Jane where did she go to get her husband?
