INTER-STATE Journal Kans., and Miss souri. Bv F. L. JELTZ. Entered as second class matter January 26 1905, at the Postoffice at Topeka Kansas unser the act of Congress of March 3rd 1820. Published at 411 Kans. Aye. T peka EDITORIAL The mill still grinds: the parer will continue in Topeka. Rev Howard the evangelist is a soul stirring evangelist. After your enemies have despised you what does it amount to?) Do justice to all men and your life will not be blighted by fear of results, Time and tide rolls on together, look to your honor and be men. Reason in all things get yourself right and every thing will be right around you. All the crimes that men ever committed they never recieved praise only from the devil. The Davis workers are in a scare over the coming election; they know justice will come. Stand by your honor and your colors never give up, justice has come to us and we are doing well The protracted effort now going on at this place and in the east means the gospel is still ahead. keep up a stiff underlip and never look back at the people who oppose justice christianity and God their maker. W. C. Horn candidate for councilman from the 4th ward will be opposed by R. Bradford who is in every way competent for the office Presiding elder Griffith was here last Sabbath and being the quarterly meeting sacrament was administered and many was added to the church. M. C. Plank who is a contractor and builder is one of the most prominent contractors in the city screens doors and all kinds of carpeting done on short orders. 1270 west st. The Ledger takes pleasure in introducing Mr. Charles Cox, for marshal' of the city court, Mr Cox has lived here for many years and was nominated for the office of maill without the asking. He is a stead' employee of the Thompson Hardware Co, and if elected will do his duty in every respect. Rev J. H. O. Taylor, the imminent Pastor of St. John's church has taken the step of a wise man by having Rev Howard the evangelist with him for several weeks. Topeka has become nearly Christianized in that time those who have not professed Christ are on the anxious seat attempting to act his mercy. JON S. R. KUTZ The first ward for the last two years has been represented by S. R. kutz who went into the office two years ago not pledged. He has given imminent satisfaction, and by reason of his uttering efforts in the council the people has asked for his relection the facts are that Mr kutz has done his duty and no apposition to any great exte it has manifested against him. Capt. C. H. titus was this week named for commissioners of elections at this point Capt is worthy of the place a career man never lived than Capt' an she will go into office uncommitted. He is a Roosevelt man and stands up for good government law and order. Gov. Hoch is not receiving in any smiles for signing the seper te schools- while it does, not effect us materially- yet we thought we would try and remain in Kas long enough to see if the 'growlers' shad the stam- ma to resent that insult at the ballo- box which is really the only weapon that wielded correctly will make Mr Hoch a one termer the Negroes of 40,000 can send him back to Marion to run his country /paper without moestation- all who are in favor of it say "L." Written by his respectable host Written by special request by, Fred L. Jeltz The State Ledger. DO RIGHT--KNOW THAT YOU ARE RIGHT; FER NOMAN; BUT RENDER JUSTICE TO ALL. The good people of this fair city largely have saw fit to nominate Hon R. W. B'air, eaq for mayor to oppose the nominee that came out in the recent contest. The editor desires to say that Mr. Blair is another broad hearted, broad minded R. L. Cotran. He will make Topeka that all can and will feel proud of. There is another feature of the situation taken by this paper and that is whereas the kansas school question has been agitated recently by the kansas law makers and the name of Kansas has been disgraced and we are deprived by our republican friends the rights given us in 1854 by the statute. We are then at liberty to support no party or parties who favor and tolerate such a ridiculous movement to defeat justice and bring us back to a chaotic condition from whence we emerged. There is no question if Mr. Blair is elected that business in Topeka will "pick up." therefore he is to be tried. Hon. J. F. Switzer of the firm of Wheeler and Switzer, is a candidate for City Attorney against Mr. Little "breeches" and stands a good show to lick the candidate brought out by himself. The Ledger has nothing against Mr. "L. B." but shall not support him so long as Mr. Switzer is a candidate. We hardly think but what Mr. litle the B' mustgo, in fact the Negroes who voto for him are now aware of his nefarious custom of doing things—many complaints have been made since, his nomination and it is awful to defeat justice by having a man like Mr little 'B' for city attorney. D. W. NAIL OF HERINGTON Mr D. W Naik former assistant warden of the State Penitentiary wants to be warden, Mr Nail has the explicit endorsement of all the white and colored guards, that as under his former administration and if Gov Hoch sees his wav clear to make the appointment there is no doubt but what he will do his duty with credit to himself and the republican party, GEC. W. VEALE, Jr. Mr Veale Jr. son of Col. Veale is a candidate for City Clerk on the democratic ticket. Oul, in name does Mr. Veale come out for your votes. He was raised in this city and says if elected will decrease the formidable printing bill and do justice to that city where he has lived all his life. H. C. FRA>FR The young men are coming to the front in every way for, instance Mr. H. C. Fraser of the firm of Fraser Bros. large store is a candidate for member of the Board of education from the third ward. Mr Fraser is one among the prominent young men of Topeka and it elected will study the interest of our schools to the letter FOR POLICE JUDGE A. A. Graham is a candidate for Police Judge. Mr. Graham is an experienced Lawyer and will fill the position with honor and credit he is at present the owner of a fine store on east 8th St, he will make things interesting. F.B. SIMS FOR COUNCILMAN The first Ward has two candidres for councilman Mr Kunz and Mr Sims—the latter has been in the laundry business in N. Topeka for many years, he is regarded as an excellent business man and hustler Mr Sims is well known and liked in his ward and will make a fine man for the place elected. ELLIS-Grocery Company Fresh and salt meats. Coal et Sucessor to P, L. Bush-1405 ks av. EDDY'S Grocery Store... Fresh and salt meats. New store, new Goods-1501 Kars avn. TOPEKA, KANSAS MCH. 18 1505 Frank E. Nippos who is a candidate for councilman in the third ward, is one of the most prominent citizens of that ward. He has been urged to accept the place by a large number of influential business men of his ward, such number most certain guarantees his election. Mr. Nippos is City Ticket agent for the Missouri Pacific Railway in this city and has been for many years. FRANK EFFINGER For Councilman 5th Ward. The friends of Mr. F. Effinger are beginning to show a strong disposition to assist him to the city council. Mr. Effinger is a well known business man of the fifth ward having lived here many years. He looks at the situation different to some. He says if he is elected, he will be the councilman for the people and not a special few. His opponent is the present councilman J. C. Shimer, who has held the office for two years. The fifth ward will be interesting as both are business' mon. BEV. HOWARD. REV. HOWARD, THE A. M. E. EVANGELIST. The best soil stirring, meetings ever held in this city, are now in progress at St. John's church, new Howard is an exceptional evange list, having lived here 26 years, a goes well know, his fame has been great, and since his siay in Topeka many converts have been added to the church. REMOVAL OF Having moved our stock of groceries and meats to 411 Kans, Ave, we desire to reduce our enormous stock to accommodate our present quarters. To that end we have reduced our prices to absolute cost of many of our staple articles. We would be pleased to have all of our old customers and a great many new ones to come and get acquainted and see for yourself. Thanking you for favors, and kindly soliciting a continuance of your patronage, The man who threws away time is the man who in the end may lose his life; he or integrity and his soul. The sweet politician that makes things pleasant for himself will awake some day with fear and trembling in his mouth and misery in his soul be right-do right; let the world say and do as it may. M.
