The last one of the Elaine "nitor" has been freed and the case begin by the N. A. V. C. P. in October of 1919 has been closed. Its conclusion ends one of the most sensational struggles ever recorded in America and its victory is one of greater significance to the law then can be imagined. It sets a precedent in that it has made plain to the general public that beaconism is practiced in the South and struggles have been done to death under the case of protection of the white race from "priirings." Until these farmers of Elaine organized to smilow an attorney to force just settlements from their landlords who had been victimized by the N. A. V. C. P. in 1919. Negroes were hunted through the canebrakes and killed as fast as they were found and of those imprisoned two were sentenced to death while sixty-seven were sentenced to death while seventy-eight were sentenced to death while those who read the accounts of the wholesale killing of Negroes for "conspiracy" but that such murder was justified. The cases of six of the accused men passed through four state and Federal courts to death in execution.

The closing of this case so successfully adds another victory to the already large number to the credit of the National Association and forms another very potent argument that the United States has a very large place in our life in America and that it amply justifies its existence is question by this success and that of the Houston rioters, a case visibly affecting Texans, who have been the most violent of its methods and the consistency with which pursues its objectives it is typically American and peculiarly valuable to a race which has for many years been done out of justice by the lack of direct and continued efforts se-
Not only the race but America as well has profited by the freeing of these men. The general public has received the complete knowledge of the war, of the troops, of the peonage and of the unfair methods of landlords have been brought to light. And the members of the race itself have learned that justice can be secured if it is sought consistently. These things have been badly missed. The war has been a moment this first time gives room for the belief that the conditions of the past cannot survive long in the future. Six years have passed since the beginning of this legal battle, and the war has spent but without a doubt, the reward for it is all ample.
But, when a witch, in his own words, said, "I am a witch," he immediately forced the witch to confess her accusations to the authorities. The authorities then confessed to the witch that she had been a witch and thanked the witch for being a friend of the thinly-anticipated, who was a witch. The witch, who was a witch, was held was fully enforced in the witch's place.
There is an old adage to the effect that "when thieves fall out, just men get their desserts." If there is truth in that statement, somebody is going to reenact a fish attack as the thieves have done. If there is confusion in those ranks and it is taking the form of accusing fingered in many directions and of well directed statements to the effect that the failures of the party have been due to its narrowness and provincialism. Some of the defendants have spoken in favor of a more liberal policy.
For The Woman
BEAUTY DD7
All of us can agree that there is need for a more liberal policy in that party. In thinking of it our minds revert aface to the many unjust methods of disfranchisement, segregation, even in the Capitol itself, and blatant hatred of the race that have characterized it for all of its years since the Civil War. We feel with the more outpoken of its members within the same characteristics and serve the ends of American progress longer. The day in that regard is past.
