As a show, we do not gain anything further out of the verdict in the trial of the plaintiff, who was accused during the trial of the pre-trial relationship. We also avoid a vindication and a vindication reflected discreetly and shamely upon both of them. We do not make a verdict made doubly sure and certain was that neither law, custom nor practice can make much difference. We also other hand it still appears that somebody is yet "missing up" and "mixing up" the facts, and that it is hard to draw the line between the two races in this country. In many respects the trial was slicking and annealing and we are going to continue the trial on the first episode projected on the open, and sincerely trust that the verdict will be unanimous, our damnment suit by the spouse against her hubby will not be so unsavory, vultures.
SCREEN EPIC WITH A LESSON.
"The Ten Commandments," picturized and modernized version of the great Bible story of the slavery, exodus and early life of the Jewish nation and their incomparable leader, Moses, which was the feature attraction at the Lincoln theatre this week, came up to all advance notices.
The first edition of the book, ever has the production of its kind, ever has the production of its
Wonderful electrical effects, beautiful scenery, massive walls, multitudes of peoples, horses, charlots, the crossing of the Red Sea and the drowning of Pharaoh's host and all the historical and biblical settings and trimmings made the film interesting, illuminating and a然地增强了观者对世界大背景的感知。
However, the picture will or should best be remembered as the great moral lessons its teachers: That the law of retribution is sure and inescapable; that he who sows to the wind and tramples under his foot the divine laws will reap the whirlwind and come to grief and be so for the time that the whole world is to honor their parents will have but a few days on this earth, and these days will be filled with much sorrow and trouble; that the spirit of greed, gain and avarice is dwarfing and stifling the moral and social fiber of our day and generation.
In booking this screen epic Manager O. P. Watt of the Lincoln has made a note of the contribution to the life of this community, and it is to be hoped that every person that witnessed "The Ten Commandments" will be a better citizen for having seen it; for the problems that existed in Moses' day are not unlike those of the present era, and only by returning to the ancient landmarks of honesty, uprightness, so brjety, morality and the practice of the law of retribution. The two of these are both the religious and civil laws can we hope to build a civilization that will withstand the ravages and assaults of time.
BREAKING ANOTHER RECORD.
The Colored Knights of Pythias of Texas, under the leadership of W. S. Willis, have developed a penchant for doing the unusual or breaking some established record.
In order to "carry their message to Garcia" and tell the world about both their financial condition and competitive membership drive, this order, along with the Court of Calanthe, sister organization, is employing 4512 gate lines (two full pages) of display advertisements in this issue of The Informer, to say nothing of reading notices in the classified section and
THE HOUSTON INFORMER
I.L.A. Acquires $75,000 Structure From Loftus In Downtown Section
Some few months ago the members of the International Longshoremen's Association No. 872, Houston, started the country by taking out a group policy in a colored insurance company (the National Benefit Life of Washington, D. C.) for $250,000, which represented the largest policy of its kind ever issued by a colored insurance company to colored policy-holders in the history of the race.
Just a few weeks ago this same local body of dock workers surprised Houston and the Community Chest directors and workers by subscribing and paying cash $300 for 1926 organized charity, paying same through their president, Freeman Everett, one of the colored drive workers.
After having rented space for meeting purposes since their organization was founded here several years ago, the officers and members, under the name of the National Longshoremen's Benevolent Association, local No. 872, have just consummated a deal with T. F. Loftus, well-known Houston financier, capitalist and real estate man, whereby the organization acquires lot 8, block 41, south side Buffalo Bayou, known as 408-411 Smith street, just around the corner from the Colored Y. M. C. A. building, the latter being located at Smith and Prairie.

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE;
BRAWLEY ON SCENE
The Colored Knights of Pythias and Court of Calantha have just initiated a big competitive membership drive between Houston, Dallas, Port Worth, and San Antonio, with some to end about January 7, 1928.
With combined assets of fully $1,000,000 the Pythias and Calantha are usually in the forefront of college football. During this membership drive, the amount will either relocate a player or serve as a coach. Brawley is in charge of the drive in Houston, with headquarters at 40% in Houston.
LOCAL PYTHIANS AND
CALANTHEANS CALLED
TO SPECIAL MEETINGS
Direct Drive T. H. Brawley has issued a call for a meeting of all grand lodge and grand court officers, deputies, chancellor officers, worthy members, which will be held at Pythian Hall, Schwartz street, Schwartz street, fifteen night (Friday, December 11), at 8 clock. Said officers are urgently requested to be present and on time. The call has been received by the Pythian Hall officers for Monday night, December 14, when all Pythians and Calcatheneans are respectfully joint meeting at the Pythian Hall, Fifth ward. This meeting will also take place on 8 p.m. pages of display advertising in one single issue of a newspaper. The attendance of the Wills administration has been due to the judicial employment problems—and though he was severely criticized this year he was not instituted when he was severely criticized. Now he has been vindicated and today the colored Pythians and Calcatheneans have been vindicated and resources around $100,000. If one doubts whether it pays to adhere to the rules of successful accomplish by the Texas Pythians through newspaper advertisements and other forms of public

The contract price paid for this two-story brick structure by this organization is $75,000. Extensive interior and exterior improvements have been and are being made upon the building by Mr. Loftus, who owns virtually half of the property in this entire downtown block. The building measures 50x100 feet, and has been completely renovated from top to bottom; all latest equipment and appurtenances being installed, making the building modern in every detail and respect.
The ground floor will be rented for business purposes, according to those on the Inde of the deal, while the upper floor will be used for the headquarters of the local and their meeting hall. According to the terms of the sale, the organization will take charge on or about January 1, 1925.
Those who signed the document closing the deal were: Freeman Everett, president; William Curtia, secretary; S. H. Smith, Walter Klinch, W. J. Morris, W. J. Nelson, Jim Thomas.
The Houston local of longshoremen has one of the most unique and novel methods extant of financing their organization. The members pay no dues, but 5 per cent of all earnings by the group at the Turning Basin is placed into the organization's treasury for the benefit of the members and their dependents; and it is from this fund that they have purchased the building on Smith Street from Mr. Loftus.

Willis' Dallas Speech Traces Pythian Rise
Mr. Willis also paid his respects to some of those who are advocating the establishment of a manufacturing concern and banks to provide dignified employment for the girls and boys of the race. He made it plain that, the race ought to do the first things first, that among the things which should be done were the acquisition of homes and the establishment of educational institutions for our people. He contended, among other things, that experience has taught us that the time is not now ripe for the establishment of manufacturing concerns. He said, "When we consider that the Angle-Saxon in the entire Southern portion of the United States of America is unable to promote, foster and maintain manufacturing establishments with that degree of efficiency which would guarantee their success." In competition with the factories of the North and East, then you can see how unwise it would be for people of our group to advocate the establishment of manufacturing concerns. For instance, everything I wear, all of the electrical apparatus used by us, all of the furniture used by all classes of people in the Southland and, in fact, almost everything we use and enjoy, are manufactured in the great manufacturing centers in the Northern and Eastern part of this country. If we had factories and manufacturing concerns, we should have jobbers, and if we had jobbers, then we should have retail merchants; we have no jobbers.

The Prairie View Panthers uplift the reputation of the Lone Star State at West End park last Friday after a 12-10 loss to the Aggregation of New Orleans University, New Orleans, La. When the smoke of battle had cleared away the Texas were loading the Crescent City grid of buildings, the game the game the Louisiana griders in it with the Panthers, and Coach Drew Brees, the men a chance to unlumber them.
and, we have no retail merchants; then, how could we find a market for the products manufactured by us? It has been clearly demonstrated in your实验室 that the technology of factory and in-product for our people and in proof of my assertion in this behalf, I respectfully cite you to the cotton mill established a few years ago by a member of our group, and the fact that the technology of the cotton mills of the soda water manufacturing concern. It is sad to say, but both of these manufacturing establishments were short-lived and the vast amount of funds belonging to an unfortunate and de-dificulted industry, which is the right and they were awakened to find that they had worthless stock certificates as a memento of the unwise investment of their surplus funds. So, therefore, I think every man and woman who has been a member of the grand lodge refusing to be thrown into any wildest scheme of establishment, manufacturing establishments, thereby making it highly probable that the funds of the order would be in the course of a long time.
In commenting upon the banking institution in this country, the grand chancellor said: "Not long since one of the greatest life insurance companies ever promoted and established by members of our group was deluded in the fact that the first-class banker, the table-top of the largest Negro bank in the history of this country among our group of people, and today that great institution, by reason of the visionary schemes of those who would have made the most of the people, have the only one that our group, and the banking institution which was established has gone down as one of the most ignominious failures ever recorded."
If desire to make it plain that the insurance laws of the State of Texas forbid the investment of fraternal societies in banks and manufacturing establishments, but if the law did not, the investment of the bankers upon the investment of our funds, I say to you, that as long as I am your grand chancellor, not one penny of the Knights of Pythias will be invested in banks to burst, and manufacturing
At the conclusion of the address of the grand chancellor, Mrs. F. M. McCormick, the President of the Court of Calathea, spoke briefly and assured those present that the grand lodge and its official staff are in good shape and all the members of the grand court and all the members of the progressive program will continue the grand chancellor. Grand medical director, Dr. R. T. McCormick, grand vice president, L. B. Kitchin, grand vice president, who is in Dallas to conduct the big drive, also attended the District Deputy George Murray as master of ceremonies and local lodges served refreshments.

INFORMOGRAMS
The two cases before the courts of this country which have had the undivided attention of colored America for the past six weeks have been decided.
The Sweet case, although a material, can be regarded only as a victory for the black community, because one considers the mountains of prejudice against which the defendants had to contend. In the Rhlshlander case in which a black New Yorker was beaten with a whistle, bewitched coloring girl, Alice Rhlshlander, anulled on the grounds of racial identity, was decided in favor of the colored wife.
It is reported that Rhlshlander's beating attorney pleaded with the jury to acquit the defendant, a verdict against the colored woman, claiming that although the defendant had been through the mock and mire during this celebrated trial, yet a boy was good enough to find many suffers for her hand.
Congress convened Monday for its long term of the sixty-ninth session. Just as soon as the members can find their respective seats, hang up their hats and overcoats, it will be time to take Christmas holidays, and draw their traveling expenses home and back. Many, of course, will remain in the capital during the holidays, but will not fall to connect up with the treasury for their railroad fares for a trip which they never intended to make. The question arises, are these men in position to criticize graffiti?
Nicholas Longworth of Ohio, former republican floor leader, son-in-law of the late Theodore Roosevelt, was elected speaker of the house of representatives.
Attorney General Dan Moody has issued his opinion that the proposed underwritten special session of the Texas legislature would be illegal; has about put a quietus on the clamor for a special session at this time.
Members of the faculty and students of Prairie View College, who invade Houston weekly, are all of one accord in lauding the administration of Prof. P. E. Bledsoe (Uncle Paul) and many express the hope that the board of control of P. V. won't be in any rush to give them a new principal.
Our people have been watching with much interest the controversy over the Pannin street streets owned by the Christ Episcopal Church, inasmuch as we are all aware of the controversy, and many colored church members are delighted to learn that a deacon named congregation to hold the property. We have old friend who often mentions that we were made up of memories, and we feel assured that there are memories connected to the community that mean much to the older members of the community that it highly gratifying to find that there is at least one memory of the community that be awet off its feet by world godl

MARITAL AFFAIR
PEOPLE REACH THE
TOPIC OF I
Last Saturday afternoon one of our most prominent young men was arrested. The policeman who made the arrest admitted in court that he had no just cause for making the arrest. The young man who had to suffer the불lie, the man who had to make a case for him, was a man who had to suffer the college man, a teacher in the high school, and, in general, bearing and容成, deports himself on all occasions as a gentleman should.
When arrested he was in company with another teacher. He was molestating the teacher, who was in the court, who had to be should have recognized that the young man was intelligent. But, it seems the officer, who was not in uniform, could perceive one thing alone—the young man must be the one thing.
In a brusque manner, apparently without any reason and without revealing his identity, the officer demanded that the young man tell him who he was the police officials that the only thing he could determine about the acoster, was that he possessed a breath heavily laden with liquor. The writer was also a man who had been a police officer who was not in uniform, who had been a police attache look the opportunity to smell the policeman's breath.
When placed on the witness stand the officer, who is a police sergeant, added to him, "I am a man who has been a policeman and a single question, discharged him. The Judge, without asking the young man a single question, discharged him."
The man's real "crime" was that he had the affrontery to ask the policeman to show his badge as proof of the officer's authority to make personal injuries of a peaceful citizen. Happily, the young man knew what and had to support him.
But, it was some poor, ignorant colored boy had been the victim of that officer's over-realistness? "Suppose that, as if he was in his imagination, he had a little more than a second of the women, it was not even the same thing," he said. "There is little doubt but that the judge would have been forced to take the word of the chosen representative of the law and convicted and in the interest of the public welfare and safety, the police are supposed to be on the other side of the law and the law should be on the other side of the law, but there is no reason a policeman should not deport himself as a gentleman. There is no reason an officer should not recognize the rights of all men."
There is no reason why a policeman should conclude that because a man is a Negro that the colored man should not be treated courteously. In contacting him, he said, "If he is a white man, he should not be treated in the same way."
In the interest of the public welfare and safety, the police are supposed to be on the other side of the law and the law should be on the other side of the law, but there is no reason a policeman should not deport himself as a gentleman. There is no reason an officer should not recognize the rights of all men.
There is no reason why a policeman should conclude that because a man is a Negro that the colored man should not be treated courteously, in contacting him, he should not be treated in the same way.
There are some bad Negroes—too many. There are some bad and mean white people—too many. It is a mystery why so many mean and actually many officers are considerate. Some who seem to make undue allowances for Negroes, but the average one seems to feel it is his duty to deny them. The police are not being being. Thanksgiving day at the football game, the mounted policemen seemed more bent on showing Negroes the a "white" policeman could do than on performing their simple duty. It is time to call a hait on these high-handed methods of the police in lieu of the police officer. The police officer, who seemed inclined to fairly investigate all complains made against the police, Chief of Police Healy on Tuesday issued orders that police must not insult and abuse people. His
MARITAL AFFAIRS OF PROMINENT PEOPLEREACHCOURT;PROVEBIG TOPIC OF DISCUSSION
(Chisolm News Service)
New Orleans, La.-The marital affairs of two families on Blainville Street, near neighborhood, as reported in the newspaper, are just now proving a big topic of conversation, especially in social circles. Mr. Louise Hardin, it appears, dislikes it is legally required to be seated with a couple. Mr. Hardin. Efforts of a reporter for The Informer to reach by telephone either on Blainville street, or Dr. Hardin, at his office, Blainville street, or Dr. Hardin, at his office, Blainville street. The other is a mystery. A daily paper reported that Mr. Carolina Thomas was suing Mr. Thomas Thomas for the loss of a car. Ernest Thomas, a railway mail clerk, lives at 1920 Blainville street. His wife is interested in no suit against a reporter for The Informer that she is interested in no suit against a reporter for The Informer that she is not at home. Mr. Thomas, a few days ago, was making arrangements with some friends of Mr. Thomas Thomas for a room at Blainville street. 1920 Blainville street are a young couple socially very prominent. The club was entertained at their home and their friends considered them a friend. The affairs of the Hardin have much disease and Dr. Hardin is not sure of a reporter for the club.

HOUSTON, TEXAS, SATURDAY, DECEMBER 12, 1925
TEXAS PYTHIANS NEARING $1,000,000 MARK.
Elsewhere in this issue appears the statement of the financial condition of the colored Knights of Pythias of Texas, led by that comparable and matchless W. S. Willis of Dallas, which shows that the Texas order has assets and resources in excess of $690,000; and with seven more months before the grand lodge (the statement is as of October 31, 1925), this amount will be considerably augmented by time of the annual session.
The Court of Calathea, sister organization of the Pythians, has assets and resources above the $300,000 mark, which means that the order is rapidly approaching the $1,000,000 mark in the Lone Star commonwealth, if it has not already attained such a level of assets. The Pythians under the Willis administration sounds more like fiction than truth; for when Mr. Willis was elected grand chancellor of the order less than a decade ago, it was practically insolvent and almost torn asunder by internal dissension.
The Willis administration financial condition, both with cash, loans and physical resources; while the membership is one of the largest, most representative and substantial possessed by any fraternal order in the state.
This statement shows that the order has cash in the various banks of Texas to the amount of $248,447.95, and the name of the institution and amount on hand in same are itemized in this report.
The colossal sum of $198,869.91 represents first mortgage loans to the race churches, schools, homes and farms, which proves that the Texas Pythians are doing much to solve some of our vexing and perplexing economic problems and are making a substantial contribution towards racial solvency, progress and independence.
Not only has the Texas order been instrumental in lending financial assistance to Texas institutions and causes, but it has also made a loan of $7,000 to the supreme lodge of the order; also invested $20,000 in bonds of the Pythian sanitarium at Hot Springs, Ark.
The lender assists the amount of interest had accrued when the statement was issued; on mortgage loans, $6,-424.11; on bank deposits, $3,048.12; on bonds, $333.33; total, $9,-805.56.
Despite the fact that the Pythians pay the highest salaries of any colored order in the state, for the last few years the interest on mortgage loans, bank deposits, etc., has not only paid all these grand lodge officials and clerical help, but has left a nice little money in the bank. In this respect the grand chancelor and his official staff have demonstrated wonderful financing ability, and have about silenced those who previously opposed the salary hikes granted them by the grand lodge.
In issuing this statement of condition the Texas Pythians of color are not trying to "show up" the other fraternal orders in the state, but are merely showing their status and what is possible where the funds of the order are proper. In the case of the membership and race, and the results accomplished thus far show the wonderful possibilities and potentialities of the race, with proper leadership and co-ordination of our forces.
HOW DO THE BUS OPERATORS DO IT?
One of the Informer's subscribers wants to know how the operators of the River Oaks buses can decide what colored citizens are eligible to ride in said buses.
As announced in The Informer a few weeks ago these "pretty little buses," running as express or limited common carriers from the downtown section to this exclusive and aristocratic residential addition, have special provisions for colored passengers; provided colored passengers are servants and employees of white persons residing in said district.
It is reported that these white operators of the Houston Electric Company's bus service are colored person to ensure that colored person informs the said operator that he or she is working for a certain white family in the River Oaks section.
In other words, it seems that the edict has gone forth from the offices of the local traction company and CITY COURTED SERIES that their River Oaks bus operators fire more questions at a prospective colored passenger than does a district attorney at a witness in a murder case!
We presume that the only hope for our people to ride in these buses will be for all of us to get a job working for some white family in that city and then we shall all be eligible to ride "pretty little buses!" in the face of this murder, wilful, malicious and predicated discrimination and injustice, the colored citizens of Houston seem to be satisfied and contented with the complete denial of their inducible and constitutional rights, and are long it will not surprise if the local traction company issues an order that colored citi-

In the neighborhood, where the Harkins live, it appears the neighbors were very much interested in what they had to do with their couple being discussing the matter. Their discussion became very animated. The wife screamed that her husband had hit her. The mother, it is said, took a poker to the husband. The husband left.

STANDARD FORCE WELCOMES
MANAGER WITH PRESENT
Samuel Saxon, well known vice president and general manager of the Standard Industrial Life Insurance Co., has just returned from an inspection trip of the ten districts operated by the company. The trip was unique in that Mr. Saxon, accompanied by Nathan Loeb, his private secretary, covered the state and points in Mississippi and Arkansas in a Buick automobile, decorated in bold face letters advertising the Standard. From the reports of visiting friends coming in from all points of the state, Mr. Saxon's trip was like a monarch making a tour of his subjects. On his return from Vicksburg, Mr. Saxon was royally received and fated by the president, Mr. H. L. Jones, at his palatial home in Lake Providence.
A. J. Newman, one of the leading agents, and H. J. Williams, in charge of the straight life department, called the agents and clerks together and a gold mounted Waterman's Ideal fountain pen was purchased by H. M. Jones, secretary, and was presented to Mr. Saxon Saturday at the agents meeting by P. T. Thorton.

TEACHER-EDITORSHIP GOES TO PREACHER, SO RUMOR SAYS
(Chinatown News Service Special.)
New Orleans, La. Dec. 16—10) Mr. Dunn, superintendent of the work of the Congregational church in Louisiana, selected as the editor for the teachers quarterly journal, when publication of the Louisiana Colored State Teachers Association, at its recent meeting in Baton Rouge, authorized the publication of $100,000 for the salary of the editor and his traveling expense. As a result, the funds brought in the recommendation for the journal, $600 was allotted for the teacher's salary, and the that association was not in position to appropriate a sum sufficient to pay the teacher. President Clark, chairwoman of the committee, stated that the plan for the teacher would require so much of the editor's time that he would recommend to the state educational department the appropriation of $600 and it was thought a similar amount could be obtained from the state educational department the amount to $2,000 and if secured will make the newly created position a
