GOREE EXPLAINS HIS POSITION IN ODD FELLOWS CONTROVERSY
Houston will be host to two grand logues during the next six weeks: ) United Brothers of Friendship and Odd Fellows and Household of Ruth the following week, August 27. ) Both of these grand sessions will be held in an annual session here, July 27, 31, and the Grand United Order of Odd Fellows and Household of Ruth the following week, August 27. ) Both of these grand sessions will be called upon to serve in the entertaining role as never before. This will be the first time the U. B. P's have met in Houston in the past. ) To many of you to yet many of the order it will be like a home-coming, for it is here that the order (the first colored fraternity in Texas to purchase an office building) owns and operates two houses from the City Hall. Houston has another distinct U. B. P's in Houston that is the largest aggregate membership in the order of any city in the Texas city's leading business and professional men and women; same being true among the Odd Fellows and As for the Odd Fellows and Ruthies, their forth coming Houston sessions will be a jubilee, for it will mark the first grand session held in the imposing city which cost around $650,000, including lots, building, equipment and furnishings. All local committees of both orders are working out all details for the entertainment features, programs and events expected—that all attendance records will be broken at both of them.
Though possessing the largest colorful population in the state and the country, Houston is home to the Texas fraternities. Houston has not entertained as many grand lodge members as the other denominations as some of the smaller cities of the Lone Star state, but the city's fraternities visit the visitors and residents, we are hoping that colored Houston will no longer be the entertainment program when same conventions occur.
HARLEM HOSPITAL NOW OPEN TO COLORED DOCTORS AND INTERNES; EARNEST FIGHT NETTED RESULTS
New York.—On Tuesday Harlem Hospital opened its doors to Negro physicians and internes. This action was taken at a conference between the Harlem Medical Board and a committee of prominent Negro citizens of Harlem, representing the newly formed Citizens' Welfare Council.
The fight for physicians in Harlem Hospital began in earnest a few weeks ago when this committee met the mayor of New York City and placed the matter squarely before him. He expressed himself as in entire sympathy and asked the mayor of the city to appoint Dr. McGrath, president of the board of trustees of Bellevue and allied hospitals and work out a plan for opening the hospital to Negro physicians.

FIGHT AGAINST
LYNCHING EVIL
(Preston News Service)
Washington, D. C.-Party years ago we used to lynch men at the rate of 172.8 a year, here in America. Last year we lynched only 18. The Federal Council of churches hopes to make a change.
Since 1888, when the fight was started against this "strictly American crime," the smallest number of lynchings in the number of lynchings. Sixteen lynchings took place in the United States last year, the smallest number of annual statistics on the crime was begun 40 years ago, and was shown in the annual reports of commission on race relations of the Federal Council of churches. The reopening of Tunkuisee institutes, Alabama, showed that 12 of the victims were Negroes.
In the impasse ending with last year 587 lynchings were recorded as compared with 700 for the previous year. In the forward decrease in the crime which has progressed steadily through every decade the number of lynchings 40 year period the figures for last year, it was showed, was lower than the last year, with the lead for the period shown to be 36.4. Negro victims numbered 2,146 while white victims numbered 1,900. Working with other organizations in a campaign to make 3928 a "lynchman," in order to protect their prisoners in these 45 preventions, sheriffs and police sometimes even opened fire on their friends and neighbors. In some instances they find with their prisoners during All the 40 year period there has been one white man lynched to "the personal security of every virtue and the supremacy of the law." George E. Hayne, secretary of the commission which is "campaigning the commission"
These figures show that America can become a lynchman land. Determined action will make that the last person in the country condemn and menace to our life."

INTERMEDIATE AND SENIOR TOPIC
The Beginning of Foreign Missions
YOUNG PEOPLE AND ADULT TOPIC
The Holy Spirit in Foreign Missions
I. The Gifts of the Church at Antioch (v. 1).
Young as Antioch, the new religious center was, she had prophets and teachers. In Eph. 4:18-12 Paul declares that when Christ succeeded he gave to the church the power to feel the sultans unto the work of the ministry. This shows that the church does not exist for itself, but he gives the head of the church, came not to be ministered to, but to minister and give His life a ransom for many (Matt. 20:28).
Babase and Saul Sent Forth (v. 2-3).
These were the first foreign missionaries sent out. While the five ministers were preaching and fasting, God commanded them to send forth Barnabas and Saul. The work of evangelizing the world was the kind of feeding that they retailed from eating in order to seek the will of the Lord in prayer. This is the kind of feeding that meets the needs of the people they were directed to send forth those whom the Spirit called, we learn that the real call to Christ's service comes from the church and the church seconded the motion by sending those who were called by Him. The church should be constant in their service to the sending forth of laborers into the vineyard. The Spirit called and the church from the church to Antioch. These men seem to have been ready to go for they rendered instant obedience to the Lord's work, holding ourselves in readiness for the immediate execution of His commission. The real call are not taken, by surprise when the church sets them forward to their specific work. The Word of God in Cyprus (p. 4-5).
We are not told as to why they first went to Cyprus, but we are left to infer that it was owing to the fact that it was acquainted with the country and people, and could thus be assured of a respectable hearing among them. Be sure to note that he had heard the good news to go with it first to their kindred and friends. Andrew first went to his brother, and then to his sister, and were cast was denied the pleasure of his request to follow Jesus. Christ commanded him to go home and tell what great things the Lord had done for him. He was faithful to God will never preach anything but His Word. The great need today in Spirit-called, Spirit-filled men is that they should be filled men will preach nothing else. The opponent of God and Christ can only be successfully met by this means. Withstood by Elyman, the Sorcerer (v. 0-12).
Sergius Paulus, the deputy, invited Barnabas and Saul to tell him of the Word of God. Elymus maliciously told Saul that he was a faithful faith. This is the first obstacle they encountered, but it was overcome through the power of the Spirit. This is the first obstacle Adam in the garden of Eden, and Jesus in the wilderness. He is the enemy of God and man. He now sought to bar the gospel as it entered the heathen. Paul denounced him in the most scathing terms. He called him the child of the devil, denounced him for his insulting nouncing him, the enemy of all righteousness, accusing him of perverting the right ways of the Lord. Surely a man is more than a wolf, trying to turn to a soul from the gospel.

"Let Us Reason Together"
College Court is now conceded, by all who have seen it, to be the greatest bay, in the way of high class homesites. In Houston. It is not the only place in the city where proved colored addition in the city. This fact can be easily verified by comparison with other additions. In approaching College Court, you can see that the street is the S. A. P. Avenue, nor do you have to the S. A. P. A. P. switch yawn. Instead of following street car lines, along busy roads and tunnels, you can drive over the Webster and W. Gray to drive over in going to and from College Court does not lie its way out beyond such districts as Houston Heights, not is surrounded by parks and only access is through the bayou, but lies between River Oak flats and with the approach through restricted residential areas in a moderately sized neighborhood. Odd Fellows' building to College Court, with a pleasant side all the way. If College Court is the best—and it is—and if the prices are the best—than in several other colored additions—and they are too high for you. If you want to be in College Court than in any other place in the city, why do you, who can afford the best, buy where you pay the same and get homesteads of a quality property.
We have sold some of the leading colored men in Honolulu lots in the College Court. Among them is the editor of this paper: Mr. C. W. Kane, the first editor in the College Court; Mr. Grabenheimer. They will attest to the truth of every word heard printed.
To you who have seen College Court, but who are waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting, that why are you waiting and you admit that we are your greatest quality in the city. Then, why do you wait? So these lots will all be sold and you will have lost your opportunity. Don't lose all. Our

SCHOOL BOARD'S NIGGARDLY POLICY!
Mrs. C. B. Bolden, 2116 Live Oak who has been on the sick list for about ten days, is much improved.
According to news items in the daily newspapers of Houston, the board of education of the Houston Independent School District has awarded the contract for the erection of a high school for colored children in "deep" Third Ward, to cost (the building) around $70,000; notwithstanding the fact that the site on which to erect this "wonderful" school structure has not yet been secured.

It is not the intention of the Informer to discuss the proposed site for this colored high school, which, apparently, will be in close proximity to the proposed colored hospital in "deep" Third Ward, but this paper does think that it is an outrage for the local school board to insult the colored citizenry, tax-payers and scholars of Houston with a little, old $70,000 makeshift building that would cost more than $2,800,000 for white school sites and buildings out of the $3,000,000 bond issues floated for school expansion purposes.
bee Spivey Printing Co. for a good press. Phones from 1994, 1995, 2002, 2003. Work called for and delivered prompts. Mines Ona Bragg and Lillian Jones 141 Cleveland, are spending part of the work. John H. Collins, Albert Allen and Ed Moore have returned from the St Bernard river, where they spent seven years.
What kind of a building can be erected for $70,000? Why, a modern two-story frame structure, built properly and with modern conveniences and equipment, will cost every bit that much or more, yet the board plans to whisk this building off on our people and their families. What kind of a building will attract the colored citizenry along educational lines, as it relates to the public schools of this city and district.
Attorney and Mrs. S. H. Cavitt were visited by the stork on the night of which left them another daughter. Rev. E. H. Molden, Supt. of Marshall M. E. district, is visiting friends here and a house guest of Mrs. and Mrs. A. Zolla.
The board is certainly manifesting a parsimonious and niggrary policy and executing a shortsighted and discriminatory program in reference to its coerced citizens and constituents, while our people are sitting around like a bunch of "dumb Doras" and evincing nothing more or less than a passive interest in a cause that vitally and directly affects them, their posteriority and the social family.
If you appreciate good music, you can certainly bear Miss Beaola Leo Baca's piano, a prano, at Anichie Baptist Church, in New York. B. E. Collins, 1019 Lake Oak, who was taken very suddenly III Saturday from stonemake poisoning, is reported to be in the hospital.
"The informer could cite several of the smaller cities and large towns in Texas which have spent more than $100,000 for buildings for colored children, and all of these buildings are not employed for colored high schools, either!"
Miss Bessie Stirling, Beaumont, in spending a few days in the city, the house guest of Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Derrett, 2708 Rice.
Just to think that Houston, with a colored population probably in excess of 50,000 (all of whom are tax-payers, either of the direct or indirect type), will not spend a sufficient amount of the tax-payers' money to erect a decent and respectable high school building for its colored children; notwithstanding the fact that, save one or two stucco structures, no buildings have been built for colored children. The fact is that the majority of the buildings now used by colored children are inadequate and wholly unfit for modern school purposes.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Williams, 3819 Broadway, Mt. Monday for Chicago, 3819 West 42nd Street, lives. Mrs. and Mrs. Kishch, 3814 Hue, who was injured in injuries on duty at chau channel two weeks ago, is up on and Miss Linda Hopkins and Mary Lue Teseu, Cuero, are visiting their cousin, Mrs. M. L. Campbell, 3819
On a percentage of population basis, since the colored citizens constitute fully one-fourth of the city's population, the board could have employed 25% of the $3,000,000 ($750,000) bond issue for the city and committed no grave offense nor violated any rule of ethics.
Rev. J. R. Roberson, Baptist city mislocation, was called to Galveston by his brother Monroe Roberson, of his brother Monroe Roberson, of Memphis, Tenn., who spent several days in the city, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Roberson, and left last Monday for Los Angeles, Cal.
Any amount less than $50,000 out of this $3,000,000 for purchasing sites and erecting building for colored schools, is a crying name, a travesty upon justice and a criminal outrage upon fair play and a square deal!
As stated repeatedly in these columns for the last several years, Houston is a poor last among the cities of Texas (and towns, too) when it comes to providing school sites, buildings and facilities for students. Houston is a city that is doing much to create and maintain a spirit of unrest, discontent and dissatisfaction among the forward-thinking, tax-paying colored citizens of this municipality and school district.
Mrs. Edna Jackson and little daughter, Julia, en route to Beaumont, stop to admire the beautiful architecture in the city, the dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. M. Richardson, 2120 Live Oak. He is a worthy artist and laudable artist by hearing Miss Eads, accomplished New York soprano, at Anti-Valley Friend Circle of the church, Wayside Friend Circle of the church.

Mrs. Undale Dixon and daughter of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Ruby Craven of Beamount are the house owners. O. P. DeWalt, Independence Heights.
Though constituting practically 25% of the urban population, the colored citizens of Houston will hardly receive 1/30th of the $3,000,000 bond issue; and yet there are some among both races, here and there in the South, who are brazen and bold enough to resist the pressure of enforcement between the white and colored children when it comes to spending public money for their weal, welfare, advancement and training.
What are the colored citizens of Houston and patrons of the sheds going to do about this matter?
Rev, and Mrs. G. Porter, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Harvey J. Edwards, have returned from an overseeing trip to Orleans and other Leuven cities
w the new colored high school in "deep" Third Ward?
How many colored parent-teacher associations have we in institution, and what have these organizations done or said respect is this school site, type and cost of the building?

than there are any protest registered to the board against the modeling and re-employment of the fire trap at Gregory School? The answer is no, the city is maddening city crowds—The Informer would like to know how many of our people know how close the street cars will run to the proposed site; how many of the streets will be shelled or gravelled out to the school; what kind of building the board plans to build; what kind of building the board plans to build built out of such a mean and meagre sum of money; just close the proposed site for this colored high school is to the proposed site for the colored hospital; how many railroad tracks in the streets must cross in getting to and from this school, et
A. K. Jempke, Mr. Eugene Kemp and C. Collins accompanied George M. Kemp and Allen, La, where George Kemp took onto a himself bible. A. K. Jempke, Mr. George M. In all frankness and candor, such a niggyard and penuriousology, as the local board of education is manifesting towards the entire citizens and scholastic, is an unwarranted and gratuitous punishment. The board is not proud of its pride; and The Informer—with apologies to no one, but speaking for those who can not speak for themselves or who can not are too cowardly to do so—here enters its protest against the board and shortsighted program; for it is neither commensurate with the board nor the colored classes and children of Houston and its school district.
